Netflix has revealed it has renewed Bridgerton for a third and fourth season. Sharing the news on Facebook, the announcement came in the form of a note written by the show's narrator, Lady Whistledown, which read, "This author shall have to purchase more ink...".

Fans of the hit show are already eagerly awaiting news about series two which was confirmed back in January of this year, so it comes as a big surprise to viewers that Netflix has already confirmed a further two seasons of the much-loved regency romance, which broke records when it landed in December last year.

The announcement, which was made by Netflix on Facebook, appears as a letter from the show's unseen narrator Lady Whistledown - who is the alias of Nicola Coughlan's character Penelope Featherington and is voiced by Julie Andrews.

It read; "Esteemed member of the Ton, it seems we have a rather special announcement. Bridgerton shall return for seasons three and four. The author shall have to purchase more ink... Yours Truly, Lady Whistledown."

The post has already gained almost 5k comments with fans sharing their excitement and discussing possible plotlines, including of course the absence of Regé-Jean Page as Simon Basset, The Duke of Hastings.

As soon as the news broke Nicola Coughlan shared her excitement with fans on Twitter, also hinting at further developments in her character's relationship with Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).

Meanwhile, filming for series 2 is expected to start this spring with many of our favourite characters reprising their roles, alongside some new and exciting faces including Sex Education star Simone Ashley.

Following the plot of the second novel in Julia Quinn's series, The Viscount Who Loved Me, season two turns to London's most eligible bachelor Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and his relationship with a woman called Edwina (Charithra Chandran).
