Sandi Toksvig's Great British Bake Off replacement has been announced as comedian and actor Matt Lucas - and fans already can't wait to see the new presenting duo in action in the Bake Off tent.

The Little Britain star will be will be joining Noel Fielding and judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood when filming for the eleventh series starts this spring.

"I’m chuffed to bits to be joining the most delicious show on television," he said of the new gig. "I can’t wait to break bread with Noel, Prue and Paul and meet the brilliant bakers. And bearing in mind my love of cake, I’ve already ordered some much larger trousers in anticipation. See you in the tent!"

Noel added: "I love Matt. I love his warmth and his comedy and his big joyful smile. I think if we play our cards right we could become the next Chas and Morph."

And Prue summed up the new duo perfectly, saying: "The combination of Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding! Will we stop laughing and get any filming done?"

One chuffed fan commented, "Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding is a duo I didn’t know I needed until now," while a second tweeted, "Perfect!!!! Bring on the next series."

The announcement comes after Sandi revealed she would be stepping down after three years as a host.

Sandi, who has presented alongside Noel since 2017, said she wants to focus on other work projects. In the heartfelt statement shared on Twitter, she also said she's made lifelong friends in her Bake Off co-stars.

"As my waistline will testify, Bake Off is an all-consuming show. Spending time with Prue, Paul and Noel has been one of the great pleasures of my life. These are friendships which I know will continue beyond the confines of television," she wrote.

The Great Celebrity Bake Off, which is currently airing on Channel 4, will be Prue's last Bake Off outing.
