Winter Love Island's Sophie Piper was forced to sit out the Las Vegas-themed challenged on tonight's episode of the ITV2 show. The 21-year-old, who is currently coupled up with Connor Durman on the reality series, had apparently fallen ill, according to voiceover Iain Andrew Stirling.

The ‘Lads Vegas’ challenge involved the guys stripping out of Elvis costumes, picking a bride-to-be and taking them up a slippery slide of an aisle before tying the knot (but not really).

"Sophie’s ill, so she’s sitting this one out," was all that was revealed of Sophie’s mystery illness.

In Sophie’s place, Connor picked Siânnise as his bride-to-be, with the Bristolian saying: "Do you know what, I had to step in for Sophie, I had to take over. I hope I did her proud."

Viewers at home quickly noticed she wasn't taking part, with one tweeting: "Where was Sophie during the challenge? Like we need an explanation," while another worried fan asked, "Where was Sophie in the challenge omg???"

Meanwhile, tonight's episode also saw the arrival of two new contestants, both called Luke – which Sophie was well enough to witness.

The first, Luke Mabbott, is a 24-year-old heating engineer. Meanwhile Luke Trotman, aged 22, is a semi-pro footballer and student.

Love Island returns on ITV2 at 9pm
