Amy Schumer has posted a photograph on Instagram sharing the raw reality of what it's like to go through IVF. The actress and comedian revealed she and husband Chris Fischer are trying for a sibling for baby son, Gene, who was born in May 2019.
This is the first time 38-year-old Amy has spoken about undergoing IVF treatment in a bid to have a child; it's not known if they used it to conceive their first child.
On Instagram, alongside a candid photograph detailing her caesarean-section scar and the bruising she's presumably sustained from hormone injections for her fertility treatment, Amy wrote: "I’m a week into IVF and feeling really run down and emotional. If anyone went through it and if you have any advice or wouldn’t mind sharing your experience with me please do. My number is in my bio. We are freezing my eggs and figuring out what to do to give Gene a sibling."
The response Amy received from her honest post was overwhelming, ranging from women who thanked her for shedding light on how gruelling the process of in vitro fertilisation can be - both physically and emotionally - to women sharing their own coping mechanisms, and others just offering their support.
"I did 7 rounds to get my twins. It was such an emotional roller coaster. I remember the bruises like you have and feeling like a giant bloated pin cushion. Thank you for normalising and bringing this topic out into the open," wrote one of Amy's followers.
"It is a very difficult process and sadly [there is] little you can do to make it easier on either of you. Try to keep busy and enjoy the moments with Gene. That beautiful boy will remind you of the why. Also keep all your syringes and take a photo before discarding them. That way the 1st time the kid says 'I hate you' show them the photo," commented another woman, who has an 8-year0old daughter herself thanks to IVF.

Several high profile women also chimed in with support. "I appreciate you as a mother, a woman, a public figure, your vulnerability is so powerful," model Tess Holliday posted in response. "I’m praying for you and chris," commented Selena Gomez, adding: "I’m sorry!" in reference to the couple's struggles.
Amy Schumer has been married to her husband, chef Chris Fischer, since February 2018. The couple had only been dating for four months prior to their wedding, and welcomed their first child, baby Gene, a little over a year later.
Fingers crossed that the process of IVF is kind to them both.
