19-year-old Falmouth University student Emily 'Mimi' Walter was left in critical condition after her drink was spiked in a Cornwall nightclub.
Mimi, from Malmesbury in Wiltshire had only just moved down to the Cornish coastal town of Falmouth when the scary incident occurred. Devon Live reports the teenager had just two gin and tonics at her flat before heading out to the freshers event, where things took a dangerous turn for the worse.
Luckily, Mimi survived to tell the tale, and posted a warning to friends on Facebook about being aware of drink spiking.
"Last night my drink was spiked at my university freshers event," Mimi wrote on Saturday (September 22). "I was found alone in the club bathroom by my best friend."
Thankfully, Mimi was fortunate enough to have been found in time to get the care she needed at the nearby Truro Hospital. If she had been discovered just a couple of hours later, the student explained, "it is likely it would’ve been fatal".
"The drug has a paralysing affect on the body and makes you completely unaware to what is going on. I spent the night in an ambulance with a team of paramedics and then was taken to hospital early this morning where I was looked after in the critical care unit. I have no real recollection of last night," Mimi said in a Facebook post that's been shared over 15,000 times so far.

Sharing advice to other students beginning their university experiences this week, Mimi urged: "Don’t accept drinks off anyone, keep your drink close; if you feel you have been spiked seek medical assistance ASAP."
Wise words indeed.
