We tried 11 of the best lip plumpers for a fuller, juicier pout – see the results in pics

Newer to the market, NYX's Duck Plump Lip Plumping Gloss ain't for the faint-hearted. Like all, the plumping sensation was tolerable, however, it did not go unnoticed. At first, I ranked it a 6, but then as the minutes passed, it grew to a 7, then 8, 9 and eventually, 10. In other words, it feels as if you've smothered your lips in chilli... so, unlike me, I'd recommend going in with a light hand! Less is more, in this case.

The pigment speaks for itself, and the shade 'Hall of Fame' really is as outstanding as one would assume. Glossy yet opaque and ofc, with a duck-like plump. Quack.

Veering from the traditional doe foot applicator, the UKLASH plumping lip gloss is housed in a clicker-twist case and comes in two colourways – 'rose' and 'clear'. I opted for rose which tinted my pout a 'your lips but better' type colour.

Colour aside, let's get into what you're here for... the burn. That typical "my lips are on fire" tingling sensation was almost non-apparent (which, I'm not mad about) but instead a cooling effect was felt thanks to the infusion of menthol. Not only that but instead of boosting blood circulation with ingredients such as sichuan pepper (that results in bigger, plumped-up lips), this formula works to boost hydration and improve circulation naturally, with extracts and vitamins including jojoba oil and aloe. As a result, my lips were left feeling moisturised and looking fuller with a high-shine finish.

So, if you're after gloss, shine, nourishment and comfort, this is the lip plumper for you!

Shade 485: Wine O'Clock in L'Oreal Paris' new Plump Ambition Lip Oil is my new favourite lip shade. As shown on the left, it really does look like I've been sipping wine all evening. J'Adore!

In terms of its plumping abilities, this test came out strong. The fine lines in my lips appeared a little less noticeable and the shine really enhanced the shape of my pout. Plus at under £15, you can't really go wrong!

Instead of an intense tingle, Il Makiage's Lip Plumping Gloss feels extremely cooling on the lips with a strong minty scent to it, so much so that it's as if one has juiced 10 Trebor Extra Strong mints and slathered its remnants onto my pout. Am I selling it to ya?

To my credit card's frustration, this is a top-performing pick of mine, ticking all of the hydration, comfort, pigmentation, colour and ultra-maximising boxes. 'Safe Word' is my favourite shade, complementing my olive-toned complexion perfectly – even if I do say so myself.

Something about Fenty Beauty just hits different; whether that's because it's a direct descendant of Rihanna or because of their hard-working formulas, there's not one product from the brand that the Cosmo Beauty team doesn't love. And the Gloss Bomb Heat is no exception.

The pigment sits somewhere between being vivid enough to notice but 'guised enough that you can put it on without a mirror (aka, overlining mistakes can go amiss). The plumping effect isn't at all uncomfortable but really does look like I've had my lips 'cosmetically enhanced' – in the juiciest, most glossy way possible. Plus, the Haribo scent is a winner, in my eyes.

With a different sensation from the rest in this lineup, Barry M's plumping gloss is one of my faves. Rather than a burning chilli feeling, it almost gives my pout a pins and needles experience – though, no need to worry, folks, because the innovative blend of ingredients (that includes Sichuan pepper and ginger root extract) delivers a safe yet plumped pout. While it's not the most dramatic before and after transformation, per my statement above, it is one of the most comfortable on the lips and therefore a top pick.

Clearly, with impulse and no expectations, I picked out the most obscure shade on offer, opting for the pineapple yellow colour which is named, yep, you guessed it: 'Pineapple'. While the colour itself doesn't transfer onto the lips, what does is the intense scent; sweet and fruity.

Fans of Charlotte Tilbury's infamous Pillow Talk, you'll be happy to know that the brand has a plumping gloss formula too, which really does give your pout a va va voom!

The hyaluronic acid in this ingredients list makes the plumper super hydrating on the lips and there's no sticky feel, so you get all the benefits without the ag!

Tingle-wise, it certainly has something to it, but it doesn't hurt, nor is it unbearable. But should you kiss a lucky someone, they'll probs feel the burn, too.

I’ll be honest, I first came across this lip gloss as I saw it peeking out my ‘new beauty to test’ pile and was in desperate need for something hydrating – this office air con sucks any drop of moisture outta me.

I threw it on and was instantly taken aback by the plumping sensation. I mean, it’s called Xtreme for a reason! It delivers an all-over tingling feeling (bare in mind, it’s quite the intense feeling... you’ve been warned!) that adds a juicy, moisturising layer of gloss while delivering a plumped effect.
