At this week's St Patrick's Day parade, amid the shamrocks, ceremony and general British enthusiasm for standing politely in questionable weather, there was a quiet beauty revelation playing out in real time. Enter: Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, and a blush placement so strategic it deserves its own seat at the royal rota. If not a minor title...
Forget the quaint apples of the cheeks, this look is blush with ambition. Swept high along the cheekbones and drifting into temple territory, the effect is less rosy flush and more defined bone structure, making for an instantly lifted and subtly sculpted look.
It's a small shift, but one that transforms the entire face. So much so, you could argue Kate's cheeks are now operating outside the laws of physics. Gravity? Not invited. (Elphaba, take notes.)
This 'blush lift' technique – as dubbed by TikTok – works by guiding the eye upward, creating the illusion of structure without the need for heavy contouring. As shown in the video below, you can use your thumb and index finger to carve out the area in which you should be filling in – like a human stencil, if you will.
This placement avoids dragging the face down and instead enhances bone structure.
And in the unforgiving honesty of daylight (arguably makeup's greatest nemesis), the technique holds its own on Kate. Her skin looks fresh, alive, and ~crucially~ snatched.
Everyone's clicking on...
From here on out, let's all make like Kate – we're no longer placing blush out of habit, but with intent. Higher, sharper, smarter cheekbones, here we come!
