As a beauty journalist, I'm constantly asked where my loyalties lie: hair, makeup, skincare, bodycare? And just like the heroine in a slightly cheesy romcom, I never hesitate. "Makeup," I say. "It's always been you." Now, that's not to say I don't love the others. But creatively? Makeup is the one. My skin is sensitive and acne-prone, my hair is fine and perpetually falling flat, and bodycare – while essential – has never quite given me that same euphoria. Makeup, however, is transformative, expressive, and empowering!
That's all to say that when bareMinerals' new Complexion Rescue Luminous Skin Tint Stick landed on my desk, it had my full, undivided attention from the very first swipe.
The new skin tint is, in essence, a reupped tinted moisturiser. It promises light, buildable coverage with a true second-skin finish, housed in a chic little stick that's super easy to apply and crucially, mess-free. It's dewy (but not disco-ball), luminous (but not lizard), and designed to blur with mineral silica and mica so texture is masked, rather than accentuated.
Ingredient-wise, it's the skincare-meets-makeup hard launch we're ready to go public with... #InstagramOfficial. There's vitamin E for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory clout, acai palm to boost hydration and support the barrier, magnesium to protect it, and calcium carbonate to keep things dewy but never greasy.
Claims-wise, the brand says it offers a 48% instant hydration boost and a 13% strengthening of the skin barrier on application, alongside a 31% improvement in smoothness*. It's also allegedly sweat-, humidity- and water-proof – which in the UK is less a flex and more a necessity.

So, the question that is posed: Does it live up to the hype?
On first swipe (across cheeks, nose, forehead, chin, it melts. Not in a sliding-off-your-face way, but in a way that makes me question where the tint starts, and where my skin ends. The coverage is sheer but cleverly blurring; my redness dialled all the way down, and post-blemish marks softened without being aggressively concealed.
By hour eight – the true test for my sensitive, acne-prone skin – it hadn't caked or clung. My complexion still looked fresh, super glowy, and significantly, calm.
Is it full glam? No. Is it your skin on a very good day, with 1.5 litres of water and eight hours of sleep banked? Absolutely.
