When Beyonce's makeup artist speaks, we listen.

Yep, Sir John - Bey's longtime make-up artist revealed his three best mascara tips to Allure, and our ears instantly pricked up.

After all, if he's responsible for Queen Bey's glam, he CLEARLY knows what he's talking about.

Firstly, Sir John says that lengthening mascara is basically just a lash primer or base coat. Wiggle it into the roots of your top lashes, going back and forth "like a toothbrush, then pull it through" he explains.

Our favourite lash-lengthener? Smashbox's Indecent Exposure Mascara, £19.50. The skinny wand works a treat for catching even short, hard-to-reach lashes and extending them in just a few swipes.

His next trick? Keep the drama to the outer corners. "I concentrate my lash game on the outer edges for a mesmeric cat-eye effect," says Sir John.

So layer up a volumising mascara like L'Oreal Paris' Volume Million Lashes, £9.99, into the outer corners to kick out your eyelashes and cheat a wide-eyed flutter. Then, whilst lashes are still wet, push them up with your finger to give a curl boost.

Keep some cotton buds handy to catch any smudges, quickly.

Finally, he recommends using a brown mascara along your lower lashes. "It'll look like black from afar, but it's more flattering up close," says Sir John.

Genius, right?

So now you can fake a fierce flutter a la Beyonce - can we steal her hair tips next?!
