Ah, the humble Beauty Blender. Who knew an egg shaped sponge could change your life in such a dramatic way? There’s not much we don’t love about them, except maybe the fact they get dirty way too quickly and are SO HARD TO BLOODY CLEAN. And we’re not the only ones who think so…

But just when we were resigning ourselves to having to buy a new one just to get out of cleaning it, we stumbled across this gem:

And because we’re dedicated to Serious Beauty Journalism, we tried it. Here’s what happened…

Step one

We found a mug, squirted some Fairy Liquid into the bottom of it, half filled with water and put the dirty Beauty Blender in (we only cleaned one at a time)

Step two

Put the mug in the microwave, set the timer to one minute on full, pressed start

Step three

Take out the microwave; then we squeezed the excess water out (but BE CAREFUL BECAUSE THE WATER IS HOT. We learnt the hard way and definitely scolded our hands a bit). This is the part where your Beauty Blender should come out all shiny and new. But ours didn’t look as clean as they should have. Look:

So we repeated the steps again, and then they looked like THIS:
