In a season dominated by bobs, the curved bob is stepping back into the spotlight. Once favoured by style icons such as Victoria Beckham and Helen Mirren, the softly angled cut has been reimagined for now, lending a sculptural, timeless elegance to mid-length hair.

Leading the charge is Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor, who debuted a sleek, collarbone-skimming bob over the weekend. Crafted by LA-based hairstylist Cervando Maldonado, the cut sees her former long lengths transformed into a modern ‘curved’ shape, with the ends subtly tapered inwards to contour the face and accentuate the jawline.

Beyond its clean lines and classic appeal, the curved bob is prized for how flattering it is – striking the perfect balance between precise cutting and low-effort styling. According to Issey Cook, hairstylist at Larry King in South Kensington, nailing the length is crucial. “The curve works best just above the shoulder so it naturally tucks under,” he explains. “If it’s too long, the ends tend to flick out.”

When it comes to asking for the cut, Cook advises opting for a rounded shape. “Keep the top slightly heavier and break up the underneath,” he says. “That way, the ends feel lighter, move more freely and are easier to bend under.”

Despite its polished finish, the style doesn’t demand hours of styling – or even hot tools. A simple blow-dry with a round brush will maintain the shape, says Cook. “It suits all hair types, but it’s especially effortless if you have a natural wave, as it helps hold the curve.”

For straight or fine hair, a volumising mousse will add lift and staying power. Meanwhile, celebrity hairstylist and founder of Aevum salon, Tom Smith, notes that those with curls or tighter textures should smooth the hair first. “You’ll get more volume and bend once the texture is refined,” he says, recommending a lightweight smoothing cream layered over mousse.

Whether worn with Dynevor’s fresh, rosy make-up or styled up for party season, the curved bob proves that sometimes the chicest accessory is simply a great haircut!
