Sometimes, beauty sales are a bit, well, sad. There’s that neon lipstick, limited-edition from last summer, sitting hopefully beside a 20%-off palette of lurid green shadows, and you know you’re never really going to wear any of it.

But sometimes, something magical happens in the seasonal sales – and this is one of those times.

The Net-A-Porter beauty sale has long been legendary, but I can confidently say that today’s discounts are the most generous I’ve ever seen – and we haven't even discussed the product selection yet.

There are brands here than have been a mainstay in my make-up kit for years – think the likes of MUA-staple Surratt and his iconic Automatique lipsticks, and Nars' brilliant Dual Intensity blushes.

But if you buy just one thing today, you’re going to need to make it Pat McGrath’s industry-shifting Skin Fetish illuminating kit, also known as the highlighter. It’s one of the very few that meet my frankly unreasonable demands – creamy, glowy, noticeable yet not packed full of glitter – and is currently reduced by 70%, making it £21 for the entire kit (including the dual-ended balm stick, pressed pigment intensifier and brush).

Why is this reduction so generous? I can’t tell you – but what do know is that it’s time to go shopping.

Sitting somewhere between 'you look well' and 'pass me my sunglasses', this is my perfect highlighter. Wear the clear balm alone for a dewy daytime look, layer with the pigmented end for extra intensity, then take things up a notch (or ten) with the iridescent pressed pigment. It's three flawless looks in one.

Let's be honest – you're buying this gigantic three-wick candle for its shelf appeal, aren't you? Good thing it smells incredible – think warming coffee and tonka beans – too, then.

If you've not tried anything from Troy Surratt's eponymous make-up line yet, now's the best time to do so. These cult lipsticks are matte, opaque and brilliantly creamy – exactly what you want in an everyday lip colour.

I'm obsessed with this vampy burgundy shade, but there are some tamer options, too.

These Marc Jacobs eyeliners have such a unique formula – they're not runny or drying, and stay put for hours. The fine brush tip means even a liner novice can achieve a perfect cat-eye flick, too.

The rose-gold shade is my favourite, and it's currently 60% off – bargain.

Why yes, this is four shades of Nars' glowy Dual Intensity Blush for £12. (Actually, if you consider that each shade can be applied wet for increased pigment, it's actually eight shades for £12.)

This was my favourite piece from Hourglass' 2019 Christmas collection – I've worn both shades down to the end already.

The kit comes with one refillable silver lipstick holder, into which you can insert either the universal nude or sultry blood-red shade. An absolute bargain for two brilliantly wearable lip colours.
