9 warm and cosy perfumes that will instantly make you smell expensive

Whether you like florals, woods, or gourmands

By

I believe in a high-low approach to life. I am lounging atop a luxe linen sheet set right now that’s beautifully draped over a cheap mattress from my local furniture store. I have a mix of drugstore makeup and high-end skincare scattered across my vanity. And the easiest way to employ this method into your daily life? Spritzing an expensive perfume over an affordable outfit (in my case, that usually means thrifted or secondhand). But! In actuality, your perfume doesn’t even have to actually be expensive for this to work. It just has to smell rich. And the wealthiest-smelling fragrances I’ve smelled as a beauty editor are those with a warm, cosy scent profile.

Warm perfumes can, honestly, smell like a lot of things. Floral, gourmand, woody, fresh – they all can have a cosy quality to them depending on the notes they’re paired with. Usually, vanilla, resin, and amber give a fragrance this warmth. If you don’t feel like sifting through notes online, don’t worry — I’ve compiled all of the best warm perfumes I’ve tested (along with favourites from other Cosmo staffers) over the years. Behold: My full guide to smelling like you own a Birkin.

PHLUR Father Figure Eau De Parfum

Father Figure Eau De Parfum

One Cosmo editor says: "In my opinion, Father Figure is Phlur's magnum opus. Its balanced blend of green fig, dewy florals and cozy sandalwood works for literally every season, occasion, and time of day. It's clean and fresh but not too fresh, courtesy of some powdery iris notes that give it a lived-in quality. Not only is this my favourite Phlur fragrance, but it’s one of my favourite fragrances of all time. I have at least 40 full bottles of perfumes in my collection, but I’ve almost gone through the entire bottle of Father Figure in less than two years. I don’t have a signature scent, but this comes pretty damn close."—LAUREN GRUBER, ASSOCIATE COMMERCE EDITOR

Best Warm Perfume for Daytime

Le Labo Thé Noir 29 Eau de Parfum

Thé Noir 29 Eau de Parfum

One Cosmo editor says: "I go feral for fig notes in a perfume, so I'm not shocked that this spicy, black-tea fragrance is one of my top favourites from Le Labo. It's fresh and crisp, thanks to the bergamot and fig, but has a smooth, warm finish from musk and cedar. And ooooh, the tobacco note gives it a deep, smokier finish. I wear this when I wanna be wrapped up in a cozy cashmere blanket (or smell like I'm at the Edition—IYKYK)."—BETH GILLETTE, BEAUTY EDITOR

CHANEL COCO MADEMOISELLE Eau De Parfum Spray

COCO MADEMOISELLE Eau De Parfum Spray

One Cosmo editor says: “At first spritz, it’s fresh and a little fruity without being cloying. Hours later, it settles into a warm, sensual vanilla with slight traces of floral. I’m pretty picky about vanilla perfumes (they can oftentimes veer too salty and skin-like for me), but here, the vanilla blends perfectly with the citruses and florals. I know some people may associate Chanel with older, powdery scents—like Chanel No. 5 — but Mademoiselle feels ageless.”—JASMINE HYMAN, ASSISTANT BEAUTY EDITOR

NotesOrange, patchouli, Turkish rose

Maison Margiela Replica By the Fireplace, 100ml

By the Fireplace, 100ml

One Cosmo editor says: “I wore this perfume almost exclusively from 2020 to 2022, and it reminds me of those treasured nights out we got during the pandemic. This makes sense, considering the whole speakeasy vibe of the scent. It’s forbidden and deep—kinda how it felt to finally go get a drink at a bar after we all got vaccinated.”—BG

Best Warm Floral Perfume

Liberty LBTY Tana Meadow Eau de Parfum 100ml

Tana Meadow Eau de Parfum 100ml

One Cosmo editor says: "I'm such a sucker for the decadence of Liberty Fragrances and Tana Meadow is probably my favourite. It's like a hit of warm, flowery sunshine but has a lil' green, crispness in the mix too which, as a floral foe, I love. It's super clean (the brand were inspired by cotton), but the creaminess of the vanilla with the florals, pink pepper and ginger mix is the most perfect, layered combo." – KEEKS REID, COSMO BEAUTY DIRECTOR
