If you've ever stared into the bathroom mirror and wondered how to coax fine hair into looking a little fuller, take notes from Margot Robbie's latest hair moment. The actor recently stepped out with a shaggy, textured bob that delivers serious volume – a cut that proves shorter hair, when styled cleverly, can create the appearance of thicker, more abundant strands.

Margot debuted her new look at the Chanel fashion show during Paris Fall/Winter Fashion Week, held at the Grand Palais on 9 March, 2026. Amid the couture and camera flashes, her softly dishevelled bob felt like a masterclass in strategic texture: slightly choppy ends, movement through the mid-lengths, and waves that begin close to the root rather than halfway down.

The style also features a choppy, shaggy fringe, giving the cut an undone, effortless finish – you could say it toes the line between bedhead hair and something far more polished... Bedhead, but make it chic!

Now, there's no denying that Margot looks stunning with this new hair look, but aesthetics aside, there's actually a practical reason textured styling works so well for anyone hoping to fake fuller-looking hair. Ultra-smooth, silky strands tend to slide against one another and collapse flat against the scalp, which makes hair harder to style and hold. Adding texture (through waves, layers or styling products that create a little grit) increases friction between the strands.

Everyone's clicking on...

Hair strands are covered with tiny overlapping scales called the cuticle. When the hair isn't completely smooth, these scales create a slightly rough surface that gives the strands a bit of natural grip. The result is strands that lift away from the scalp, separate more easily and hold waves or bends better, creating the appearance of more volume through the root and body.

The more you know, hey?

That all said, the plot thickens... There's every chance Margot's new chop is actually a wig. Hollywood loves a hair fake-out almost as much as it loves a standing ovation. So, before you sprint to the salon demanding "the Margot", it might be wise to wait and see whether this bob has permanence… or simply very good clips.

Alas, real or not, there's no denying this particular Margot hair moment is destined for the beauty history books. Long live the bob!
