Gen Z may be viralising the fox eye makeup trend with social media video tutorials galore, but one celebrity who paved the way for its newfound popularity? Catherine Zeta-Jones, who arguably coined the look in the early 90s. Trend-setter, much?!

Earlier this week [30 July], Catherine attended the global premiere of Wednesday season 2 part 1, alongside a number of A-list co-stars; everyone from Joanna Lumley to Jenna Ortega was in attendance. Of course, individually, the actors looked incredible, but one thing that they cosigned was gothic, vampiric glam. I mean, hello Wednesday!

Catherine's makeup look, however, was one that stood out for its sultry fox-eye feel. Would you just look at that purple-toned lip and smoky – yet very much lifed – eyeshadow? *Chef's kiss*

The actor's look is reminiscent of "fox eye" makeup, a beauty trend that aims to create an elongated, lifted, and almond-shaped eye appearance – similar to the natural eye shape of a fox. It gives a more sultry, feline look, and celebrities, including Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner, have both been at the forefront of it on social media.

That said, Catherine has long been wearing eye makeup in an upward and outward style. Just look at her in her 'For All Time' music video, 1992.

Simply stunning.

Fox eyes aside, as mentioned, Catherine was one of many celebrities in attendance at the Wednesday premiere and to no surprise, they all went above and beyond in the gothic glam department. See a few of our fave dark and sultry hair and makeup looks below:
