Pigtails and tinsel extensions aren't the only primary school hair trends that are set to be big this party season. Kate Hudson just brought back a real classic we'd almost forgotten about. Welcome back to the double ponytail.
Kate just wore her golden blonde hair in a grown up twist on the quick-but-cute playground go-to. Though this one doesn't look quite as speedy as the ones your parent would whip up while you ate your Cheerios. Anybody else struggle to get the spoon in their mouth while your head was pulled about?
The basic principles are the same though, starting similarly to a half up half down, the top half of your hair is parted and tied in the first ponytail (or in Kate's case, a chic twisted knot). Then the hair from the first ponytail feeds into a low pony at the nape of the neck.
Celebrity hairstylist Gregory Russell further elevated this 'grown' take on the style by teasing and plumping the mid-lengths of the first pony into a bouffant before adding it into the second pony. And naturally, this look required a little more elegance than the one remaining bobble you hadn't lost in the playground, so another lock of Kate's golden hair was wrapped around the tie of the second pony.
Now, I'm not quite sure I'd have the skills (or hair) for that silky knot making up the crown ponytail, but a simpler, teased-out double pony is going straight on my list of party season options.
Now I just need to actually get invited to some Christmas parties... my DMs are open.
