Like chokers, skinny brows and opalescent eyeshadow, brick-brown lipstick was the height of cool in the 90s. Well, just like chokers, skinny brows and – ok, maybe not opalescent eyeshadow – brown lippy is back, thanks to the new poster girls of the bygone decade.
Channelling the retro trend (in modern ways) are not only the likes of the uber-street chic Kylie Jenner and Rihanna, but models including Gigi Hadid and Jourdan Dunn who are wearing it as well as the 'Supers' did back in the day. Here's how:
Kylie Jenner and her infamous pout are pioneering this trend. She even has a namesake lip colour collection coming out that's packed with - you guessed it - browns. Here she models one from the #KylieLipKit which looks amazing against her near-black hair.
Gigi Hadid's pout has a touch of shimmer to it, showing true 90s know-how.
Beyonce proves brown is the new plum and looked killer with a vampy pout paired with gothic black lace.
Zendaya wears it well with a more natural, pinkish hue. She demoes how to balance it out with minimal eye makeup.
Jourdan Dunn has made brown lips look elegant with this opaque neutral shade.
Rihanna teams hers with a choker, obviously. It looks perfect with her colourings.
Olivia Palermo's pout has a slight shimmer, proving that retro brick-brown can be chic.
Little Mix's Leigh-Anne Pinnock nailed the trend with "#AllBrownEverything".
Her band mate Perrie Edwards does brown lippy in a grungy way, paired with her signature nose ring and rock locks.
Rita has rocked the brown lip trend with a burgundy shade – this looks stunning against her bright blonde hair.
