We're so close to finding out who dies on season 3 of The White Lotus that it almost feels silly to keep theorizing about it. But if guessing who the killer is on The White Lotus is wrong, I don't want to be right. Besides, the White Lotus cast just teased the finale death in a new interview—it would be TV fandom malpractice not to overanalyze everything they said.
Season 3 of The White Lotus opened with what appeared to be an unidentified dead body floating in the waters of the hotel, so we all know at least one person is going to die in the finale, and everyone's got a theory. (Mine is that Jaclyn ends up killing Valentin, but I admit, it's a little far-fetched.) But, according to Jon Gries, who plays Greg/Gary, we're all wrong.
“Whatever you think you know, you're going to get it wrong,” Jon said in The Hollywood Reporter's new season 3 oral history. Charlotte Le Bon, who plays Greg's girlfriend/escort Chloe, kept things equally ominous, saying, “People are going to hate Mike White.” Huh...vague, but intriguing, as it does suggest that people will actually be sad about whoever dies. (Please, don't let it be my fave girl Chelsea!)
What's most telling about Jon and Charlotte's answers isn't necessarily what they say, but the fact that they answered at all. Earlier in the piece, while speaking about the intense secrecy surrounding the season finale script, Sarah Catherine Hook, who plays Piper, said, “The finale just needs to be out already! There was a lot to keep secret. I'm feeling a bit suffocated. And I don't even know what happens.”
Apparently this season on The White Lotus, they didn't give everyone on set a full finale script to avoid leaks—it was all need to know. It's unclear whether or not that means only actors involved in the big reveal scenes got the full scripts, but Sarah does imply that she didn't have access to some big twists. (Or she could be really good at lying!) Patrick Schwarzenegger, who plays Piper's brother Saxon, also insisted he that he has “no idea what happens.”
If both Sarah and Patrick don't know who dies, then you could assume that their characters aren't involved in the shooting at all. But what does this mean for the Ratliff family at large? Well, Parker Posey, who plays their mom Victoria, said she does know who died. Or, at least, she did at one point. “I forgot who died,” she said. “It was so stressful when I read it. The dark stuff, I blazed through.” So...Victoria is involved, but not her children?
I really don't know what to make of it, but I do think we, as fans, should all take anything said with a grain of salt. Andrew Garfield lied for years about being in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Actors know how to keep a secret!
