Have you fallen into The Pitt yet? HBO's new medical drama has everyone on the edge of their seats. This show has everything you could ever want: high stakes (literally life or death), an endearing ensemble cast, medical hijinks, and, yes, lots of personal drama thrown in for good measure. Another thing it's got? Tons of Emmys thanks to its 13 nominations. It's already won two Emmys at the Creative Arts ceremony! And, and did we mention that it's also gotten a season 2 pick up?

That's right, The Pitt season 2 is officially happening. In fact, it's already in the works, and while most details are being kept under lock and key, there are a few things we do know about the sophomore season of the surprise hit.

Has The Pitt been renewed for a season 2?

As previously stated, yes, The Pitt has been renewed for a second season at HBO. The network announced the news in February—just one month into the first season. “It's been a thrill to watch audiences embrace The Pitt as an update to procedural storytelling with a cast who authentically embody the heroics of doctors and nurses on shift in a 2025 emergency room,” said Head of Max Original Programming Sarah Aubrey in a statement announcing the renewal.

What will The Pitt season 2 be about?

What makes The Pitt stand out from other medical dramas is that the entire 15-episode season takes place over the course of one shift in the E.R.—with every hour of television representing another hour of work for the doctors and nurses. Season 2 will maintain that structure, but it's raising the stakes by taking place over a 4th of July weekend, about 10 months after the current season.

Creator Scott R. Gemmill revealed to a panel at the Writers Guild of America that one of the storyline will follow a baby throughout the entire 15 hour shift, according to Deadline. More details are still under wraps, but we do know that Shawn Hatosy (who already won an Emmy for his guest-starring role in season 1) and Noah Wyle are both confirmed to direct an episode this season.

Who is in The Pitt season 2 cast?

Doctors and nurses don't always work the same shift, so we could be seeing a brand new mix of med students, attendings, and nurses. As it stands now, it looks like most of the cast is set to return—even Patrick Ball, whose character Dr. Frank Langdon was caught using drugs in season 1. But things can always change.

Here's who we know will be in the returning cast for season 2:

  • Noah Wyle as Dr. “Robby” Robinavitch
  • Katherine LaNasa as Nurse Dana Evans
  • Supriya Ganesh as Dr. Samira Mohan
  • Krystel Mcneil as social worker Kiara Alfaro
  • Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay
  • Taylor Dearden as Dr. Melissa King
  • Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos
  • Gerran Howell as Dr. Dennis Whitaker
  • Shabana Azeez as Dr. Victoria Javadi
  • Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon
  • Shawn Hatosy as Dr. Jack Abbot
  • Ken Kirby as Dr. John Shen (aka Iced Coffee Guy)
  • Ayesha Harris as Dr. Parker Ellis

Unfortunately, Tracy Ifeachor will not be returning as Dr. Heather Collins.

There are also a handful of newcomers joining The Pitt for season 2, though their roles haven't been confirmed. Here's what we know so far thanks to reporting from TVLine.

  • Sepideh Moafi as a new attending physician
  • Charles Baker as a patient
  • Irene Choi as a third-year medical student
  • Lucas Iverson as a fourth-year medical student
  • Laëtitia Hollard as a recent nursing school graduate
