While some of us are still grieving the end of The Kid LAROI and Tate McRae’s romance after they called it quits this summer, it seems like the Australian rapper is reflecting on the relationship on his new self-written track, “A COLD PLAY.” He released the KBeaZy-produced song on September 5 after it leaked and made its rounds on social media. It follows his latest single, “SHE DON’T NEED TO KNOW,” which dropped on August 29.
Now that “A COLD PLAY” is officially out, fans ARE fully convinced that it might be about Tate and LAROI’s split. As one person posted, “This is gonna sound horrible but thank you tate for bringing back peak laroi.” Another added, “I feel like i’m a kid choosing between my parents with laroi and tate. I KNOW we’ve had no official confirmation but cold play is SO clearly a breakup song.”
ICYMI, LAROI—whose real name is Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard—confirmed on social media back in August that he and the “Sports Car” singer are still on good terms following their breakup. The pair started as friends, but were romantically linked from January 2024 to July 2025.
So, without further ado, let’s look into The Kid LAROI’s “A COLD PLAY” lyrics and see what they could really be about.

[Verse 1]
Who was I to think that I could fix you, baby? (Who?)
Who would I be if I didn’t miss you, baby? (Who)
I hope that you know you were appreciated
Around my house, I still got up all of our pictures, baby, mm
’Cause I still love you, that’s how I feel at my core
Flew different states to come see you in between tour
I gave you everything I had and even more
In the first verse, he reflects on his relationship, admitting that he thought he could “fix” his partner. He seems to still have strong feelings for his ex, as he keeps pics of them around his house. Obviously, there are some lines that mention seeing his ex on tour, which fans think could be pointed at Tate because of several instances where LAROI pulled up to her shows.
[Pre-Chorus]
Just understand it’s not like me to give my heart away, ayy
Now you takin’ distance and it’s hard to take, ayy
I tried everything to get your thoughts to change, ayy
I tried not to listen when they all would say, ayy
This was temporary and you’d walk away
It’ll always be easy to blamе you
But it’s my fault for thinking I could
[Chorus]
Fix you, fix you, fix you, fix you
Fix you, fix you, fix you, wish I could
Miss you, miss you, miss you, I miss you
It’s really hard to accept the fact that I can’t
Fix you, fix you, fix you, fix you
Fix you, fix you, fix you, wish I could
Miss you, miss you, miss you, I miss you
It’s rеally hard to accept the fact I can’t fix you now
Naturally, fans were shook by LAROI’s move as he dropped his “A COLD PLAY” announcement the same day Tate allegedly sang “Fix You” by Coldplay during her Miss Possessive Tour soundcheck, and she also liked his Instagram post announcing the song.
Iiiinteresting, considering he repeats “fix you” during the chorus.
[Verse 2]
You said to me, baby, you was all in
I think we just probably should’ve stayed friends
I think that we probably could’ve saved tears (And saved years)
Tate and LAROI were famously friends before they became an item. During an interview on The Mitch Churi Chat Show in November 2024, Tate opened up about how she and LAROI first met.
“We honestly weren’t the closest of friends, we were kind of like acquaintances, we always had awkward encounters,” Tate said at the time. “And then something just clicked.”
[Pre-Chorus]
[Chorus]
