• Taylor Swift's "The Fate of Ophelia" from The Life of a Showgirl appears to be a love song about Travis Kelce saving her from the "fate" of Ophelia.
  • Ophelia is a reference to Shakespeare's Hamlet, and her "fate" was drowning.
  • Casual reminder: Taylor's ex Joe Alwyn stars in two upcoming Shakespeare movies: Hamlet and Hamnet.

Taylor Swift's The Life of a Showgirl has arrived, and we're here to talk about "The Fate of Ophelia." First impressions? Pretty sure this song is about Travis Kelce. Specifically, about Trav saving Taylor from the woeful fate of Ophelia (we'll get to that in a moment).

There are multiple references to the Chiefs tight end in the song, including the very first line—"I heard you calling on the megaphone"—which alludes to that one time Trav made his feelings known verrrrrry publicly on his podcast.

"The Fate of Ophelia" also speaks to Taylor's state of mind before she and Travis got together, with lyrics like "I swore my loyalty to me, myself and I / Right before you lit my sky up." There's also the line "keep it one hundred," which is a phrase Travis likes to say, not to mention the caption of his first Instagram post with Taylor (plus her lucky number, 13, plus his uniform number, 87, equals 100). Oh, and if you want even more proof that this song is about Trav, there's also a direct reference to his "team" (we all know he plays on the Chiefs!).

As for the Ophelia of it all, this is a pretty clear reference to Shakespeare's Ophelia—who was driven to madness by Hamlet and ended up drowning. Sooo...if Travis is saving her from Ophelia's fate, who is Hamlet in this story? Only Taylor knows for sure, but seems worth pointing out that her ex Joe Alwyn is in several Shakespeare-themed movies coming up—including Hamlet *and* Hamnet.

On that note, we'll just be here reading into the line "No longer drowning and deceived / All because you came for me." Check out the full lyrics below!

I heard you calling on the megaphone
You wanna see me all alone
As legend has it you are quite the pyro
You light the match to watch it blow
And if you'd never come for me
I might've drowned in the melancholy
I swore my loyalty to me, myself, and I
Right before you lit my sky up
All that time, I sat alone in my tower
You were just honing your powers
Now I can see it all (See it all)
Late one night, you dug me out of my grave and
Saved my heart from the fate of Ophelia (Ophelia)
Keep it one hundrеd on the land, the sea, thе sky
Pledge allegiance to your hands, your team, your vibes
Don't care where the hell you been, 'cause now you’re mine
It’s 'bout to be the sleepless night you've been dreaming of
The fate of Ophelia
The eldest daughter of a nobleman
Ophelia lived in fantasy
But love was a cold bed full of scorpions
The venom stole her sanity
And if you'd never come for me
I might've lingered in purgatory
You wrap around me like a chain, a crown, a vine
Pulling me into the fire
All that time, I sat alone in my tower
You were just honing your powers
Now I can see it all (See it all)
Late one night, you dug me out of my grave and
Saved my heart from the fate of Ophelia (Ophelia)
Keep it one hundred on the land, the sea, the sky
Pledge allegiance to your hands, your team, your vibes
Don't care where the hell you been, 'cause now you’re mine
It’s 'bout to be the sleepless night you've been dreaming of
The fate of Ophelia
'Tis locked inside my memory
And only you posses the key
No longer drowning and deceived
All because you came for me
Locked inside my memory
And only you posses the key
No longer drowning and deceived
All because you came for me
All that time, I sat alone in my tower
You were just honing your powers
Now I can see it all (See it all)
Late one night, you dug me out of my grave and
Saved my heart from the fate of Ophelia (Ophelia)
Keep it one hundred on the land, the sea, the sky
Pledge allegiance to your hands, your team, your vibes
Don't care where the hell you been, 'cause now you’re mine
It’s 'bout to be the sleepless night you've been dreaming of
The fate of Ophelia
You saved my heart from the fate of Ophelia
