Baby, it’s cold outside! No literally, it’s so cold outside that all I want to do is curl up and indulge in what I like to call my “grandma hobbies.” These are cozy indoor activities that feel wholesome and timeless enough that I'll want to take part in them for the rest of my life. Sure, I like happy hour as much as the next gal, but when it’s below freezing, I prefer to park myself inside with a craft and a coffee, thank you very much.

And I’m not the only one: Everything from cross-stitch to mahjong to junk journaling has gone viral on TikTok, which means it's now trendy to indulge in the low-energy hobby life. With all due respect, they feel like activities that would fit right in at a nursing home (I’ve seen my future, and it is BRIGHT), but they're just as rewarding as they are relaxing. Not to mention, they majorly cut down on my screen time.

As someone who frequently partakes in many of these (I'm a needlepoint sun, a mahjong moon, and a flower arranging rising, in case you're wondering), I've rounded up the best gifts for my fellow grandma hobby lovers. Whether you’re shopping for a friend who’s never met a hobby they didn’t like, a White Elephant gift exchange full of self-proclaimed hobbyists, or want to treat yourself to a new craft (or accessory) this Christmas, you're bound to find a gift to impress the grandma-at-heart.

It's no secret that mahjong sets can get pricy (I will forever be lusting over these STUNNING tiles from Oh My Mahjong), which is why I was gagged to find this cute travel set for a fraction of the price. It comes with mini tiles, racks, and a customizable pouch so you can take the game on the go, AKA, convince everyone on your next vacay to start playing!

I had scrolled past many a needlepoint pillow until I finally decided to try my hand at the hobby a few months ago. Suffice it to say, I'm hooked. If you know someone in the same boat, this kit is the perfect gift. It not only comes with an adorable ornament that can live on their tree for years to come, but it includes all of the threads they'll need, as well as access to beginner video courses. Once they're well-versed in the world of needlepoint, tell 'em to turn to my personal favorite small business for canvases, Penny Linn.

these adorable diamond art coasters

Cocktail Diamond Art Coasters Kit

Cocktail Diamond Art Coasters Kit

Even the most artistically challenged people will love diamond painting. It's soothing, relatively mindless (I personally recommend listening to podcasts or audiobooks while crafting!) and has the perfect amount of bling. This kit includes eight colorful cocktail-themed coasters, as well as all of the diamonds and pens you'll need. It's truly as easy as it gets: Just dip the pen in the glue, add a diamond, and press it to the cork coaster!

In my humble opinion, puzzles are the ultimate common denominator. They require pretty much zero skill and are endlessly satisfying to complete. If you're shopping for someone who can't resist stopping to smell the flowers, you absolutely cannot go wrong with a puzzle featuring a whole host of gorgeous blooms. Not to mention, you'll be supporting a woman-owned business with your purchase. (They have lots of other elevated puzzle designs to pick from.)

Trust me, you don't have to be good at art to enjoy this workbook. I'm no van Gogh myself, yet I was pleasantly surprised at what I was able to paint with this watercolor kit thanks to the step-by-step instructions. Just don't forget to include the paints and brushes (This $20 set has 50 colors and six brushes!).

Whether you call it junk journaling or prefer to use its government name (scrapbooking), the holidays are a great time to pick up this hobby, so you're all ready to go when it comes to document 2026. A well-designed junk journal is truly a time capsule of your life, but an empty notebook can be rather daunting. This book has 52 prompts packed with inspo that will help you make the most of the ephemera you've collected, so you won't just be gluing random receipts to the pages of your journal (been there).

Next time someone tries to tell you that they aren't crafty, point them in the direction of this DIY bag charm kit (which, BTW, is one of Oprah's Favorite Things). This set comes with enough beads and paracord to craft six bag charms. It's the perfect thing to grab for an upcoming girls' night. I'm also eyeing this bead kit that allows you to craft an Apple Watch band.

Shopping for someone who A.) can't resist a hands-on building project and B.) has bookshelf space to spare? Opt for one of these storybook kits, which slot neartly into a bookshelf once fully built. Choose from a flower shop, a bookstore, a cute coffee shop, or a romantic night in Venice (adding that to my 2026 vision board). Each takes between three and seven hours to build, so it's the perfect way to spend a snowy Sunday.

Is it just me, or have rugs made by punch needling taken over your entire For You page on TikTok? Before you try your hand at a rug of your own, learn the craft with this cute kit, which includes the pattern, an embroidery hoop, and all of the needles and thread you'll need to whip up this floral design. While some of the popular crafts out there can stress your credit card, this set is just $10, making it perfect for White Elephant.

As someone who still plays Wordle every day, I'm not ashamed to admit that this book is at the top of my Christmas list. It's essentially a compendium of IRL versions of the most popular New York Times games, from Connections to the Mini Crossword. I'd go so far as to call it to a sleeker version of those Sudoku and word search books they used to have at the grocery store checkout. Throw this in the ring during the gift exchange with your Wordle group chat, and you'll be declared a legend.

this bread that's almost too pretty to eat

Uncommon Goods DIY Focaccia Garden Art Kit

DIY Focaccia Garden Art Kit

Move over sourdough, there's a new bread trend to rule them all. Whether you're shopping for a seasoned baker or someone who simply can't resist a carb, this gorgeous bread kit is sure to please. It comes with flour, yeast, seasoning, and plenty of inspo to turn your bread into a work of art. After all, what's more grandma than freshly baked goods?

Is anything more grandma hobby-appropriate than a game I used to play with my own grandma when I was little? Nope. I'm obsessed with everything about these bookshelf games: the aesthetic, the price point for gifting, the way they fit in this compact volume that slots neatly next to your favorite reads—utter perfection. Choose from my personal favorite (Mystery Date) or snag Scrabble, Sorry, Trouble, and dozens more.

Is watching every historical documentary I can find in my streaming service rotation a grandma hobby? We can debate that later, because you know what is 100% a grandma hobby? Sipping a hot cup of Joe (or tea). This mug is the best of both worlds, thanks to the QR code, which reveals a new history fact every day. This is a gift that's sure to be stolen in your office gift exchange.

Before I became a magazine editor, I was convinced I was going to be a lawyer, to the point that I took the LSAT three times in college. The entire experience was dreadful—save for the logic puzzle portion, which I thought was pretty fun. Murdle essentially combines the logic puzzle premise with the game of Clue, giving you a handful of evidence that allows you to deduce the name of the criminal, the murder weapon, and the location of the crime. Trust me, they are beyond addicting: I did an entire book of 100 puzzles during a week at the beach this summer.

Much to my wallet's protests, I'm in too deep with needlepoint. If I could go back and start all over again, I might have tried cross stitch first, which is similar, but typically less expensive and a little easier for beginners, as it only has one stitch. I'm obsessed with this sardine kit, which not only comes with everything you'll need to get started, but feels very en vogue considering this year's major sardine girl trend.

Despite the fact that I live in a New York City walk-up with no outdoor space and possess the complete opposite of a green thumb, I'm obsessed with flower arranging. I've been to a handful of classes (It's totally worth checking out your local florist to see if they offer any!) and truly feel my most creative when I'm snipping stems and comparing petals. This deck is packed with tips and tricks for creating stunning arrangements. If you want to go the extra mile, I'd pair it with this kit and a gift card to a flower shop. (Even Trader Joe's will do—it's truly me and their flower selection against the world).

Trust me, you're most definitely gonna want to be cozy while indulging in your new grandma hobby. That's where this Cosmo editor-approved blanket comes in. Shopping Editor Hannah Oh said that although expensive, the quality matches up to the cost. "I can never go back to a regular blanket," she wrote in her Lola Blanket review.

Glocusent Bendable Neck Light

Bendable Neck Light
Now 31% Off

Hear me out: Once you start crafting with a neck light, you'll never go back. It makes it so much easier to see every detail, whether you're needlepointing or diamond painting. This one is completely bendable and has multiple brightness levels. Using one of these also allows me to keep the big light off, which is always a must in my book.

this multi-tasking must have

Amazon Audible Gift Card

Audible Gift Card

When I first embarked on my crafting journey, I thought I'd be able to watch TV in the background. Turns out, I need audio-only options to fill my time while my hands are occupied (can't be left alone with my own thoughts), so I started listening to podcasts and audiobooks. If you're shopping for someone who feels the same way, opt for an Audible gift card, which allows them to download a handful of audiobooks of their choice. It's a must if they frequently run out of Spotify audiobook minutes each month.

Perhaps the most grandmotherly thing of all? Drinking tea made in your very own kettle, especially when it's awash in MacKenzie-Childs' signature checkered pattern, which takes cottagecore to the max. It's a bit of a splurge, but you'll they'll have it forever. Just don't forget to pick up enough tea bags to sustain your crafting sessions or late nights spent reading!
