It’s still snowing. It’s still freezing. And I am so over looking like a marshmallow every single day. This is coming from someone who owns some of the chicest puffers out there (style editor perks). Naturally, my fashion-obsessed brain has been hunting for a chic transitional coat that actually says spring vibes while keeping me warm in this Arctic nonsense… and everywhere I look lately—on social media and IRL in New York City—people are wearing burgundy leather trench coats. It’s perfect. It’s gold. And, yes, I said burgundy for spring. Just stay with me...
First, let’s talk about the elephant in the room: the color. Because I already know some of you are thinking, “Isn’t burgundy more of a winter shade?” or “Didn’t burgundy just dominate all winter long?” And listen, you’re not wrong. But here’s where I’m standing on business: For me, burgundy isn’t seasonal, it’s actually incredibly versatile. The rich hue hits that sweet spot: vibrant without being bright and loud, which works perfectly with my usual black, white, and brown wardrobe. It adds depth instead of distraction.
And the shade range? Top-tier. Go for a super-saturated, red-tone coat if you want something bold. Or choose a deeper, moodier tone with brown or purplish undertones if you’re going for something more understated. Either way, it works. After spotting it on countless street style stars during Fall/Winter 2026 fashion week, styled in ways that felt fresh, I’m ten-toes-down convinced this isn’t a seasonal fling.
I mean, trench coats for spring aren't exactly groundbreaking. They've always been the go-to transitional layer. But make it leather and burgundy? Now you've got something that actually turns heads. It takes a classic silhouette everyone already knows and loves and gives it an edge that feels current and unexpected.
And let’s be real, leather has that innate Certified Cool Girl energy. The moment I slip it on, my confidence spikes, and I feel like the most stylish person in the room. The elongated trench silhouette only takes that feeling up a notch.
Call me president of the burgundy leather trench coat club (spring chapter) at this point! Seriously, though, it’s the perfect way to add color and some edge to your wardrobe, even if Mother Nature is still holding onto winter. So if you see me wearing one for the next eight weeks...no, you didn’t.
