In The Summer I Turned Pretty, aka the show that everyone you know was tuned into this summer, Belly Conklin spends a lot of time in flip-flops. But Lola Tung, on the other hand? Like most born-and-bred New Yorkers, she’s a sneakers girl. Adidas sneakers, to be precise.

The actress is the face of Foot Locker’s Gifts of Greatness Holiday 2025 campaign, shot on the streets of NYC, and it’s clear that the native is totally in her element. No sundresses in sight, but plenty of bold colors, souped-up Adidas sneakers, and eclectic outfits befitting any Gen Zer worth their salt. "Sneakers are always on my holiday wish list. I'm a big sneaker girl," Lola spilled to me during our sitdown. "My sister is 18 and she's already asking me for some new Sambas. She's very excited about this campaign."

And as for the shoe styles she's currently shopping for herself, plus whether she's stolen anything from the TSITP wardrobe department and what Belly's style will evolve into for the upcoming Summer I Turned Pretty movie? You'll have to keep reading.

Tell me about what drew you to working with Adidas and Foot Locker for this campaign. Did you have any favorite moments while shooting?

Adidas is such an incredible, timeless brand. I grew up wearing the brand. It was part of my childhood. And growing up in New York City, Foot Locker was the classic place to go get your sneakers. We shot this campaign on the streets of the city, which I had never really done that before. I had one moment in the campaign where I was walking down the street with, let's say, a confident air, and had a main character moment. And it's just like, wow, this is so cool.

Are there any specific pieces that you shot that you're obsessed with right now?

I love the little red Adidas Mary Janes. I think they're so cute. It's a slightly different shape, but you still get the comfort of a sneaker. I'm usually a comfort-first person, it's just necessary when you're walking all the time. And then a classic Samba. My sister has them and all my friends have them, they're just one of those shoes that is just totally timeless and such a great staple.

Tell me about your personal style versus Belly's style. How would you describe each one? What do you feel like are the differences?

Especially in the first couple seasons, Belly is a beachy girl for sure. She loves her little cutoffs and a knit top and flip-flops. I'm much more of a sneaker girl, though. A baggy jean and a cool T-shirt kind of person. I like to feel comfortable, that's when I feel most like myself. But I also love to experiment with fashion, and we see Belly do more of that in season three. We both have our staple, go-to pieces that we wear over and over. I loved a lot of Belly's longer denim shorts and little flowy shirts. It was cool to see her more mature style come out in the most recent season.

Have you ever stolen anything from wardrobe before?

Of course. We couldn't really take stuff that was used in the show just in case you end up filming a flashback or whatever. They hold onto everything for a while. But, you know, I stole some little tank tops that weren't used. It's like, if they're sitting around, I'll take them.

Without spoiling anything, can you tease how Belly's style evolves in the movie? Is she keeping her Paris vibe? Is she going back to her sundresses?

I actually have absolutely no clue, and that's a great question that I'm very curious about. I hope she gets to keep some of her new hairstyle. That would be fun. Jess, our head of costumes is so collaborative and Jenny [Han] as well. So I think it'll just be discussing that altogether, which will be really fun to build that. Maybe she'll have her little Sambas in the movie.

Do you have any fall fashion trends or styles that you've been loving?

My fall wardrobe has truly been a cute knit, a good jean, and a sneaker. I almost need it to feel a little bit colder. I love a hoodie that's hoodie-ing. Like, one that's basically like a blanket. I love fall, but my birthday's in fall, so maybe I'm biased.

Any sneaker suggestions that you'd recommend as a holiday gift?!

The Adidas Samba, easy. Or get the Mary Janes, I wore them with a cute little leg warmer. And there's the little coquette shoe, the long tongue coquette shoe that I think is really cute. The little bows feel super festive.

What is the best gift that you've ever gotten or given to a romantic partner or someone you're dating?

I think in general when someone hears something that you say in a conversation and remembers it later. You're like, "Oh my God, this really specific thing?!" It's just about listening, I think. They surprise you and you're like, "Oh my God, how did you even—I can't believe you did that. That's crazy that you even remembered that." Or homemade gifts. That's like my go-to thing. I think it's so sweet, even if it's a little imperfect.

If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self about love and dating, what would it be?

Never feel any pressure to be anything but yourself when you're talking to people. I think it's easy to overthink or feel embarrassed about things. For me, I'm overthinking every single movement, every single thing that comes out of my mouth. And I'm like, it's okay. The right person in terms of relationships and friendships will love you exactly as you are.
