One thing I love about Chappell Roan? The Midwest Princess isn't afraid of being a little controversial—and apparently, that even includes her footwear choices. In her highly anticipated music video "The Subway," the star recently sparked debate by wearing one of the most divisive shoes of our generation: a pair of Crocs.
While Chappell donned heels for her most of the music video, she chose a more ~practical~ shoe to chase down her lost love on a CitiBike: a pair of Crocs Classic Clogs, in the shade Rust to match her auburn curls. Now, as someone who hasn't set foot in a pair of Crocs since her summer camp days, I have to admit that I was a little taken aback to see the clogs worn alongside Thom Browne and Jimmy Choo. But given Chappell's penchant for campier style choices (hello, prosthetic pig nose and Lady Liberty drag), maybe I shouldn't be surprised?
At risk of being ridiculed, let me just say that Crocs are a kiiind of a genius invention. They're easy to keep clean, have great arch support, and come in dozens of different colors (ya know, in case you want your shoes to match your wig-slash-bodysuit-slash-cape). And if you buy into TikTok's wrong shoe theory (AKA, making a fashion statement by wearing shoes that clash with your outfit), Crocs are a subversive—and genuinely comfortable—addition to your footwear rotation.
This isn't the first time we've seen the popstar don a pair of Crocs. She actually teamed up with Crocs to promote her single "The Giver" back in May, launching a set of limited-edition Jibbitz that are (sadly) sold out. But if the comments section of Crocs' latest post is any indication, there could be a full-on Crocs x Chappell Roan collab in our future.
"OMG I NEVER THOUGHT THIS COLLAB WOULD HAPPEN," wrote one user—and Crocs replied, "It's not over."
"OK but can we get some Pink Pony Slides next?! Like… glitter, drama, hoof-ready realness 😱💅🩷 I’m BEGGING!!" added another commenter. Crocs' response? "I think I’ll have to explain hoof-ready to our product team."
In other words, it seems like a collection isn't totally out of the question. But while we impatiently await more details, I rounded up a few more Crocs styles with major Midwest Princess energy.
