A first date 'fit has to strike the right balance. You want something that says "text me back!" but also "no pressure, I'm chill," with accessories that scream "I'm emotionally available" but "don't you dare love bomb." Thankfully, you don't need to panic text your group chat or therapist (or group chat of therapists) to solve this one.
Sydney Sweeney—aka the final boss of cool girls—just dropped some serious wisdom on the subject while announcing her new campaign and exclusive denim launch with American Eagle on Wednesday. I, for one, am sat.
"If you're happy in a flowy, cute summer dress, rock that. [Wear] whatever you feel the most comfortable in and the most you in," Sydney tells Cosmo. "I always feel like you want to show up as unapologetically [yourself] because if you try to do something else, you're not showing that person who you actually are."
As for what she'd wear herself? "If you're happy in a pair of jeans and a T-shirt like I am, that's what I'd show up in."
Sydney isn't just an any jeans and a tee kinda girl though. She's an American Eagle jeans and a tee kinda girl—and has been long before she teamed up with the brand on a profesh level.
"This campaign was really kind of the genesis of me as Syd. I’ve always loved American Eagle jeans—I’ve worn them since I was little. They’re the comfiest pair of jeans, and I’ve raved about them forever," she says, before adding that she owns "probably every single pair" from AE.
While the collection as a whole includes plenty of styles Sydney is wearing on repeat—including this front-tie tank that "you can layer as fall comes" and coming soon button-down jean jacket she's "obsessed" with—Sydney also designed her very own denim style. The Sydney Jean, which is launching officially in a few weeks, features a butterfly motif on the back pocket that represents domestic violence awareness. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Criss Text Line, which offers free and confidential 24/7 mental health support.
"I was really inspired after I filmed [the] Christy Martin [biopic]. I was inspired by her story and how incredible she is. I wanted to do something to honor her and also support domestic violence," Sydney adds. "Every pair is really going to make a difference. It’s my small part in hopefully raising awareness and giving back however I can."
Now as for how she's planning to style 'em? "A T-shirt and a pair of white Miu Miu sneakers," she says. "For night, you can keep the same T-shirt and just change the shoe to a little kitten heel, a sandal, or a pointed toe heel. Add a belt and a jean jacket—you're good to go."
The TL;DR: Dating might be exhausting, but picking your 'fit?? Doesn't have to be.
