If you're all about taking care of your skin with LED masks and a robust skincare routine, or keeping your hair healthy with hair masks and scalp serums, then you should absolutely be sleeping on a silk pillowcase as part of your beauty routine, too. Silk pillowcases help prevent sleep creases and keep the hair looking frizz-free and smooth by minimizing friction overnight.

Even if you don't have an intense 10-step beauty regimen, it's still worth investing in a good silk pillowcase because not only are they ideal for your skin and hair, but they're also an easy way to make any bedroom feel super chic. In addition to testing and sleeping on silk pillowcases ourselves, team Cosmo spoke to celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin, as well as licensed aesthetician Brit Lanier, about the benefits of silk pillowcases for hair and skin—spoiler alert: they're both fans.

Our top picks for the best silk pillowcases of 2026:

Why we love it: Brooklinen is beloved for their chic and crisp bedding, so naturally the brand made its way into the silk pillowcase market. If hair breakage and smooth skin are your main concerns, the brand's relatively reasonably-priced silk pillowcase is a total no-brainer. It comes in seven colors and two sizes to fit a variety of pillows.

One Cosmo editor says: "I used to wake up from the deepest sleeps with creases and redness all over my face, specifically when I nap, but that hasn't happened since I started using Brooklinen pillow cases. The pure silk feels so soft against my cheeks (side sleepers, unite), and is super gentle on my sensitive skin."—JASMINE HYMAN, ASSISTANT BEAUTY EDITOR

Why we love it: Quince is beloved for selling quality products at a reasonable price, and that includes silk pillowcases. The brand's 100% mulberry silk pillowcase has a small zip closure, so your pillow will never fall out, and comes in a vast range of sizes and colors. And if you don't like it, (which seems unlikely) Quince takes free returns up to 365 days after purchase.

One Cosmo editor says: "I'm a silk pillowcase devotee, and when I sleep at my boyfriend's apartment, I bring my Quince pillowcase to slip over his cotton ones. I sleep peacefully knowing my skin and hair are much safer in the hands of this 100% mulberry silk cover."—JH

Why we love it: If you want to invest in a silk pillowcase that's 100% organic mulberry silk to improve your skin health, hair health, and overall sleep quality, this is the one. Not only is the silk pillowcase organic, it's also hypoallergenic, colored only with non-toxic dyes, so you get all the silky benefits. You'll wake up with smooth hair and zero face creases, feeling cool and rested.

One Cosmo editor says: "I've been using a Slip pillowcase for nearly five years, and it really has made such a difference in my hair. I sleep hard, which always makes my hair a tangled mess in the morning. I can toss and turn all night long, and Slip keeps my hair silky and smooth. Of every silk pillowcase out there, though, it's my go-to because of the zippered design. Again, I am a rough sleeper, so without the zipper, the pillowcase will just slide off the pillow by morning."—BETH GILLETTE, BEAUTY EDITOR

Why we love it: If you're still not sure you want to pull the trigger on a silk pillowcase, but you want to experience the luxe feel of soft fabric against your skin, this Kitsch satin pillowcase is about as close as you can get. Made of polyester, this satin pillowcase is smooth to the touch and is delicate enough to keep friction to a minimum and leave your hair looking healthy and as frizz-free as you can get without real silk.

One Cosmo editor says: "The first silk pillowcase I ever had (slash, could afford) was this one from Kitsch, and it still holds up as one of the best I've used. In fact, it's actually the silk pillowcase I keep in my suitcase to travel with."—BG

Why we love it: It's hard to find a solid silk pillowcase with a cute pattern. But not Hommey, which offers 100% mulberry silk playful pillowcases that'll breathe new life into your plain everyday bedding. And if you share a bed with a partner, getting a patterned pillowcase will help ensure that no one steals your preferred pillow. Unless you get two identical ones, then you're on your own.

One Cosmo editor says: "I love pairing crisp white sheets with a fun patterned pillowcase. Unfortunately, silk pillowcases with cute designs are few and far between. But, Hommey's are funky, eclectic, and perfectly match the aesthetic of my NYC apartment."—JH

Cozy Earth Silk Pillowcase

Silk Pillowcase

Why we love it: Cozy Earth makes my favorite bedding of all time—you haven't had a luxurious night's sleep until you've tried the brand's bamboo sheets—so it's not a surprise that the 100% mulberry silk pillowcase is just as good. Plus, the pillowcases are treated with aloe vera, which is soothing for the skin and has anti-bacterial properties.

One Cosmo editor says: "If you're someone who prefers neutral bedding over something fun and playful, Cozy Earth has a plethora of simple colorways—I'm talking four different shades of grey. My entire bedding is comprised of Cozy Earth's iconic sheets, and there's nothing better than topping off my freshly washed covers with these silky pillows."—JH

What are the benefits of silk pillowcases?

    ecomm line

Silk pillowcases offer a lot of benefits for your skin and hair, as well as your aesthetic. Yes, they'll glam up any room, but they'll also help keep your hair from drying out. "Cotton absorbs moisture, while silk retains it, so when you lie on a silk or satin pillowcase, the oils from your strands are maintained rather than soaked up, leaving your hair nourished rather than dry," Jen Atkin told Cosmo.

Licensed aesthetician Brit Lanier added that, compared to other materials, silk is less likely to contribute to the formation of wrinkles or fine lines. "Your skin can't slide against cotton as it can with silk, so cotton pillowcases can actually create fine lines and crepe-ing on your face due to constant traction and friction," she said.

Personally, I've noticed that when I sleep on a silk pillowcase, my hair looks fresher in the morning and feels less coarse. Silk pillowcases also help keep my combo skin balanced and crease-free—a miracle for a side sleeper. Bottom line: I wake up feeling and looking more like myself!

What momme is best for a silk pillowcase?

    ecomm line

As a general rule of thumb, the best momme (mm) for a silk pillowcase is the closest to 30 mm. Allow me to explain: The Japanese unit of weight measurement, momme, is used to measure the density, and in turn, quality of silk fabrics. And if you've been shoppin' for silk pillowcases, you may have noticed that when the momme goes up, so does the $$$. The best way to understand momme is to think of it like thread count in sheets: Typically—though not always when it comes to bed sheets—the higher the thread count, the better the sheet. Well, it works pretty much the same for momme.

Silk pillows typically land somewhere between 15 to 30 momme, the majority landing somewhere around 19. If you're new to the silk pillowcase game and are looking to try one out, go with a pillowcase with 15 to 19 momme count. Wanting to splurge a little? A 22 momme and up is where it's at.
