So you think (or you know) you have rosacea. Welp, welcome to the (very) popular club of a casual 14 million Americans and, idk, a billion more worldwide. Despite how it may feel, you’re definitely not the only one dealing with flushed skin, spontaneous redness, spider veins, dryness, and overall sensitivity. And though it can be frustrating—especially since there’s no cure yet—there are plenty of rosacea treatment options, including prescription meds, professional therapy, and (my fav), soothing, calming, and redness-reducing rosacea creams.

But before I get into the goods, listen up: Over-the-counter rosacea creams won’t “fix” your rosacea, and they certainly aren’t as effective as prescription products. “For those experiencing severe redness or pimples and nodules, it may be time to consult with an expert,” says board-certified dermatologist Kristina Collins, MD. Rosacea flare-ups will still come and go, whether randomly or from a common trigger, like spicy foods or stress. But what a rosacea cream can do is help strengthen your skin barrier while calming irritation and soothing inflammation. And to help you choose the best rosacea cream for your skin, I chatted with board-certified dermatologists Dr. Collins as well as, Mona Gohara, MD, and Jenny Liu, MD.

Our top picks for the best rosacea creams in 2024:

Keep scrolling for the full list of best rosacea creams below, with tried-and-tested reviews from people who use them religiously, along with insights from the experts on what causes rosacea, how to treat rosacea, and how to choose the best rosacea cream for your skin type.

Pros

  • Helps heal and protect your skin from further irritation

Cons

  • Some reviewers note the formula can separate in cold temps

I’m in love with this rosacea cream. The rich, soothing formula is great for unexpected flare-ups and also safe for moisturizing your face after an in-office rosacea treatment, like laser therapy. It uses zinc oxide (an anti-inflammatory) to help your skin recover by creating a protective barrier that works to prevent moisture from escaping while keeping irritants from entering. Honestly, 10/10.

  • Key ingredients: Zinc oxide (sunscreen and anti-inflammatory), copper (anti-inflammatory), and glycerin (hydrating)
  • Fragrance free? Yes
  • Size: 1.3 ounces

Glowing Customer Review: “Single-handedly calmed my angry skin in a week,” writes a reviewer. “I damaged my skin barrier by using wrong and harsh actives, thinking they would cure my acne rosacea. This cream calmed my skin down, cut down on redness in just few days. If you have rosacea and super sensitive skin, just buy this stuff.”

SOS Daily Skin Barrier Redness Recovery Moisturizer

Pros

  • Won't cause any pilling under your makeup

Cons

  • Testers wish there was a bigger size option as they run through the formula super fast

Reddit users with rosacea (and basically every single person who tries it) love this moisturizer from one of my favorite beauty brands, Tower 28. In the brand's words, it's "intentionally basic," meaning that the formulation is made with only good-for-your-skin, non-triggering ingredients, so even those with the most sensitive skin (s/o those with rosacea) will find soothing relief and hydration when applied. But the best part? The formula is a dream under makeup, and I find it gives me the smoothest, most gorge base ever that even my best makeup primers can't do.

  • Key ingredients: Hyaluronic acid, ceramides, sodium hyaluronate (hydrating); allantoin (soothing)
  • Fragrance-free? Yes
  • Size: 1.86 ounces

Glowing Customer Review: "Rosacea Hero! This cream is so thick and luxurious—it blends into your skin easily and leaves it feeling hydrated, plumped, and protected. I have rosacea on my cheeks and nose and I've found that with consistent use of this, my skin is much less red and even in tone. It wears beautifully under makeup and a little goes a long way. I have sensitive eyes but my lids feel dry at times and I am even able to apply this to that area without any irritation at all. I plan on using this year-round, it is seriously amazing!"

Best Rosacea Color Corrector

SkinCeuticals Redness Neutralizer

Redness Neutralizer

Pros

  • Jam-packed with ingredients that will calm and soothe angry, irritated skin

Cons

  • Lightweight, so you may need something a lil heavier on top

Along with spider veins, dryness, and overall sensitivity, rosacea's main trademark is its signature red hue that can pop up whenever, wherever, for as long as it so pleases. That's why you need a product with a ton of ingredients that work to neutralize redness, improve your skin barrier, and really soothe, calm, and cool down your skin. *Cough cough, this bb right here* Apply this SkinCeuticals super formula post-cleansing both day and night.

  • Key ingredients: Zinc gluconate (anti-acne); caffeine (smooth & tighten); vitamin E (antioxidant); squalane, glycerin (moisturize); bisabolol, palmitoyl tripeptide-8, panthenol (soothing)
  • Fragrance-free? Yes
  • Size: 1.7 ounces

Glowing Customer Review: "I have suffered from rosacea for many years and have had trouble finding products for my sensitive skin. I tried the SkinCeuticals Redness Neutralizer at the suggestion of a friend who is a dermatologist. I am so glad I did. The formula is lightweight and doesn't make my skin oily. It keeps my redness to a minimum. Will definitely buy again."

Best Rosacea Cream for Dry Skin

Vanicream Moisturizing Skin Cream

Moisturizing Skin Cream

Pros

  • Has a pump dispenser for contamination-free application

Cons

  • Some testers say it takes a while to fully absorb into skin

Though every rosacea cream on this list is safe for sensitive skin, Vanicream is known for being *the best* for highly-reactive skin, and this formula is no different. The ingredient list is super short and sweet, with the star ingredient being petrolatum, an occlusive ingredient that helps trap and lock moisture into your skin. It may not win an award for Most Instagrammable Packaging, but it's inexpensive, non-irritating, and amazing for anyone dealing with dryness, itching, and flakes. Priorities, my friends.

  • Key ingredients: Petrolatum (occlusive and hydrating) and sorbitol (humectant and hydrating)
  • Fragrance-free? Yes
  • Size: 16 ounces

Glowing Customer Review: “This product was recommended by my dermatologist after my first severe flareup of rosacea. I have been using this product for a year. I have not had a flare-up in over 8 months, so couldn't be happier.”

Azelaic Acid 10% Suspension Brightening Cream
Credit: Courtesy Image

Pros

  • Helps gently exfoliate skin and kill acne-causing bacteria

Cons

  • Some testers experienced pilling when used with other products

If you’re dealing with rosacea and acne (technically called papulopustular rosacea), you need to try azelaic acid immediately. It’s not only one of Dr. Collins and Dr. Liu’s favorite ingredients for sensitive skin, but it’s also the main ingredient used in both prescription rosacea treatments and acne treatments, thanks to its ability to destroy acne-causing bacteria while soothing inflammation. Prescriptions tend to start at 15 or 20 percent strengths (which can be irritating at first), so if your skin is hyper-sensitive, try this lower-dose, 10 percent cream from The Ordinary first.

  • Key ingredients: Azelaic acid (soothing and exfoliating) and vitamin E (antioxidant and soothing)
  • Fragrance-free? Yes
  • Size: 3.4 ounces

Glowing Customer Review: “I’ve suffered from rosacea for years—red skin/bumps/flare-ups…I’ve spent hundreds of dollars trying to find something that would clear up my skin and I’m so glad I found this. In just 2 days of use, I saw a dramatic difference in my skin. I can actually see what my cheeks look like without the redness.”

Aveeno Calm + Restore Oat Gel Facial Moisturizer

Amazon’s Choice

Pros

  • Gel-cream formula is a light and cooling

Cons

  • Some dry-skin testers wanted a heavier formula

If you're unfamiliar with the concept of oats in skincare, let's change that, k? Oat extract is commonly used in skincare to soothe itchiness and irritation, and it’s also the hero ingredient in this lightweight, gel-cream moisturizer (highly recommend for oily skin, fyi). The formula is also filled with feverfew (an antioxidant-rich plant known for soothing redness), along with glycerin for skin-plumping hydration.

  • Key ingredients: Glycerin (hydrating), oat extract (antioxidant and soothing), and feverfew (antioxidant and anti-inflammatory)
  • Fragrance-free? Yes
  • Size: 1.7 ounces

Glowing Customer Review: “I have rosacea and acne prone skin that is highly sensitive. I have had a hard time finding a moisturizer that my skin can tolerate. This is the one—it's not easy to find moisturizers without oils in them that also get the job done. As soon as you put it on, you can feel it calm and cool the skin.”

Best All-Over Rosacea Cream

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream

Best Seller

Pros

  • Cult-favorite formula can be used on your face and body

Cons

  • Large tub isn’t easily portable

I'm the gal who loves to get the most bang for my buck, so I'll never stop recommending this giant vat of moisturizing cream. The ceramide-rich formula gives itchy rosacea skin some much-needed TLC and also helps strengthen your skin's protective barrier to help prevent flare-ups, says Dr. Henry. "A damaged skin barrier can be a trigger for inflammation in rosacea and can lead to increased redness and dilated blood vessels," she says.

  • Key ingredients: Ceramides (hydrating), petrolatum (occlusive and hydrating), hyaluronic acid (hydrating and plumping), and vitamin E (antioxidant and soothing)
  • Fragrance-free? Yes
  • Size: 19 ounces

Glowing Customer Review: “I’ve always just picked up random moisturizers off the shelf thinking they were working fine but then a friend recommended this to me and I had no idea what I was missing out on! This has left my face softer and more moisturized than ever before. It’s even helped with rosacea. My cheeks haven’t been nearly as red and blotchy!”

Best K-Beauty Rosacea Cream

Cosrx Snail Mucin 92% Repair Cream

Snail Mucin 92% Repair Cream
Credit: Courtesy Image

Pros

  • Filled with soothing and hydrating snail mucin

Cons

  • Some reviewers say the texture has a “slimy” feel

OK, I know that the thought of slathering your face in snail mucin (a substance naturally excreted from snails) might sound off-putting, but it’s actually pretty legit for rosacea. Filled with peptides, hyaluronic acid, and antioxidants, snail mucin—especially when mixed into this calming Cosrx cream—can help soothe and heal irritated skin, which is probably why it has a fan base of more than 13,000 (!) Amazon shoppers.

  • Key ingredients: Snail mucin (antioxidant and hydrating), hyaluronic acid (hydrating and plumping), and amino acids (firming)
  • Fragrance-free? Yes
  • Size: 3.5 ounces

Glowing Customer Review: “I have struggled for years with redness and inflammation due to rosacea. Not sure how I came to know about this product, but after spending $$$$ on other products, I have finally found the holy grail for my skin. I could not be happier with the results. My skin is clear and sooooo soft with an amazing texture and clarity I have never had!”

Peach Slices Redness Relief Calming Cream

Redness Relief Calming Cream

Pros

  • Filled with cult-favorite anti-inflammatories

Cons

  • Some testers say it made their skin feel oily

Don’t be alarmed when you unscrew the lid to find a green-tinted cream—that’s all part of its redness-reducing magic. Concocted from natural green extracts, like broccoli, spinach, and spirulina, the earthy-colored cream dries clear on your skin and helps soothes rosacea irritation with two inflammation-busting ingredients: panthenol (aka vitamin B5) and centella asiatica (aka tiger grass).

  • Key ingredients: Panthenol (hydrating and soothing), centella asiatica extract (antioxidant and soothing), and glycerin (hydrating)
  • Fragrance-free? Yes
  • Size: 1.7 ounces

Glowing Customer Review: “I've struggled with acne and rosacea all of my life. Most redness relief products contain niacinamide, which my skin is super sensitive to. Not only does this product NOT contain that, it's completely reduced my redness! I've never gotten more compliments on my complexion than I have when using this.”

Pros

  • Gel-cream formula absorbs quickly without feeling greasy

Cons

  • Jar formula requires your fingers to scoop and apply (so less hygienic)

This fragrance-free rosacea cream has 6,000 positive reviews on Amazon for a reason: It really, truly helps soothe skin. Legit thousands of people slather on this cooling gel-cream before bed every night, and swear it helps them wake up to less-inflamed skin. Skin Recovery Daily Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 Mineral Sunscreen
Credit: Courtesy Image

Pros

  • Contains SPF 30 for UV protection

Cons

  • A few testers noted it left a white cast on their skin

If you’re supremely lazy (hey, same), and you can’t stand applying sunscreen over your regular moisturizer, pls grab this soothing cream asap. It’s filled with SPF 30 (the bare-minimum you need to protect against damage and irritation) in a mineral formula to gently shield rosacea-prone skin while also hydrating and soothing it with hyaluronic acid oat extract. All-in-one rosacea cream? Yes, pls.

  • Key ingredients: Titanium oxide and zinc oxide (physical/mineral sunscreen), oat extract (antioxidant and soothing), and hyaluronic acid (hydrating and plumping)
  • Fragrance-free? Yes
  • Size: 2 ounces

Glowing Customer Review: “Absolutely love this product. I always have issues with moisturizers being too heavy/oily but this one is perfect. I have very sensitive/rosacea-prone skin and it's so soothing and calming. I always get comments from people on how my skin glows whenever I use it too! Big Fan!”

UV Clear SPF 46 Face Sunscreen
Credit: Courtesy Image

Pros

  • Wears well under makeup, according to testers

Cons

  • A few reviewers felt it looked too shiny for their oily skin

You put on SPF every single day, right? Right?! Good, because it’s genuinely required for anyone who has rosacea, since UV rays and environmental pollutants can intensely aggravate your skin. Enter: this cult-favorite, mineral sunscreen, which Dr. Collins recommends using (instead of a chemical SPF) to help prevent accidental irritation and flare-ups.

  • Key ingredients: Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide (physical sunscreen), vitamin E (antioxidant and soothing), and hyaluronic acid (hydrating and plumping)
  • Fragrance-free? Yes
  • Size: 2 ounces

Glowing Customer Review: “I have extremely sensitive, dry, acne-prone skin with rosacea, I’ve tried more sunscreens than I can count and they either burn or break me out. This one doesn’t! It’s very calming, has the slightest bit of coverage that makes my skin look refreshed, and provides great sun protection.”

Best Luxury Rosacea Face Cream

Kate Somerville DeliKate Recovery Cream

DeliKate Recovery Cream

Pros

  • Packed with soothing and moisturizing ingredients

Cons

  • Some wish the consistency were a bit thinner and lighter

As seen by this thorough-as-hell list of rosacea creams, it’s obvious that you don’t need to spend major money to see results. But if you love the rush that comes with a splurge (I get it), this vanity-worthy jar and top-rated formula has your name ~all~ over it. The rich balm is filled with soothing and repairing ingredients, like peptides, ceramides, and botanical extracts, to help your skin feel softer and smoother over time.

  • Key ingredients: Peptides (firming), ceramides (hydrating), ginger root extract and Tasmanian fruit extract (antioxidant and soothing)
  • Fragrance free? Yes
  • Size: 1.7 ounces

Glowing Customer Review: “I have tried so many moisturizers and oils—So. Many. Not only does this super-thick and comforting cream not break me out, but it soothes the beginnings of my rosacea. I refuse to use anything else besides this daily now.”

14
Best Rosacea Cream With Ceramides

Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Skin Barrier Moisturizing Cream

Ceramidin Skin Barrier Moisturizing Cream
Credit: Courtesy Image

Pros

  • Loaded with ceramides to help heal an irritated skin barrier

Cons

  • Contains essential oils, which may irritate sensitive skin

As its name implies, this moisturizer is full of hydrating and strengthening ceramides, a type of lipid (fat) that helps keep your skin barrier healthy and plump. So if you're prone to dry, scaly patches and irritation, this thick, ceramide-packed moisturizer will be your MVP. Testers note that a little bit (like a pea-size) goes a long way, which makes the higher price point more justifiable, too.

  • Key ingredients: Ceramides (hydrating), panthenol (hydrating and soothing), and peptides (firming)
  • Fragrance-free? No
  • Size: 1.7

Glowing Customer Review: “I have always struggled with bad rosacea and would never let people see me at night or in the morning without makeup. I woke up this morning with NO REDNESS ANYWHERE! Usually, my skin is clear but redness held that back. I felt beyond beautiful bc the redness was completely gone. Definitely recommend. New holy grail.”

Pros

  • Uses green tea extract to soothe

Cons

  • May be a bit too heavy for oily-skin types

The next best thing to visiting a Parisian pharmacy IRL is Amazon Prime-ing the goods to your doorstep instead. Enter: one of my favorite rosacea creams from Bioderma that uses green tea extract and allantoin to soothe red, inflamed skin, along with glycerin for a hydration boost.

  • Key ingredients: Green tea extract (antioxidant and soothing), glycerin (hydrating), and allantoin (soothing)
  • Fragrance-free? Yes
  • Size: 1.3 ounces

Glowing Customer Review: “I have tried laser, and various products for my rosacea. When my luggage did not arrive on a trip to Paris a year and a half ago, I was forced to go into French pharmacies to replenish supplies. I have never had such clarity and redness reduction as I have had with this product. And leaves my skin with a faint glow.”

Relax Rosacea & Redness Relief Calming Moisturizer Cream

Pros

  • Uses propolis, which is said to help with wound healing

Cons

  • Reviewers wished for a larger tube for the price

"Hey honey," sounds like the beginnings of an MLM pitch, but you're in the clear (I swear). Instead, this moisturizer's brand name spotlights one of its hero ingredients: hydrating honey extract. It works with propolis extract (a waxy substance produced by bees that’s thought to help with wound healing) and soothing aloe vera and vitamin E to help curb irritation on rosacea-prone skin.

  • Key ingredients: Vitamin E (antioxidant and soothing), propolis (anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial), honey extract (hydrating), and aloe (soothing and hydrating)
  • Fragrance-free? Yes
  • Size: 2.2 ounces

Glowing Customer Review: “Both my husband and I have very sensitive skin that is prone to rosacea spots, most lotions will burn, or be too greasy, this one is perfect! I ran out of the lotion and was making do with some old products I had when my husband had a skin flair. He searched the whole cupboard and asked, ‘where is the good one...the honey one?’ Needless to say, in his opinion, the lotion is worth the cost.”

Best Cream Cleanser for Rosacea

Clinique Redness Solutions Soothing Cleanser

Redness Solutions Soothing Cleanser
Credit: Courtesy Image

Pros

  • Contains soothing cucumber fruit extract

Cons

  • Some testers say it doesn’t remove makeup easily

OK, this isn’t technically a ~rosacea cream~, but if you’re trying to treat rosacea, you need to make sure every step of your skincare routine is gentle and soothing, including your face wash. This drugstore formula features soothing cucumber fruit extract and lactobacillus extract, a probiotic that the brand claims calms redness. It’s gentle, non-greasy, and doesn’t leave your skin feeling tight, which is exactly what you want from a cleanser.

  • Key ingredients: Cucumber fruit extract (soothing) and squalene (hydrating)
  • Fragrance-free? Yes
  • Size: 5 ounces

Glowing Customer Review: “I have been using this for over a year now and it's still the best facial cleanser I have come across. I have rosacea, and even products that were prescribed or recommended by my dermatologist don't work as well as this. Takes off make-up, doesn't irritate, and soothes my skin. LOVE IT!”

How to choose the best rosacea cream:

Find creams with azelaic acid

The best cream to help treat rosacea, per dermatologist Kristina Collins, MD, is a cream that contains azelaic acid in low concentrations (think: 10 percent or under). She deems azelaic acid as the gold standard for “long-term, non-irritating rosacea control.” Just be sure to wear daily SPF, too. “Sun is a major trigger for rosacea, so I strongly recommend all people with rosacea apply a mineral-based sunscreen daily to prevent flares,” Dr. Collins says.

In addition to azelaic acid, the best creams for rosacea contain both soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, says Dr. Collins (think: ceramides, colloidal oatmeal, centella asiatica, zinc oxide, etc.). They should also be free of additive irritants such as fragrance, essential oils, camphor, and menthol, which can be “extremely triggering,” on sensitive, rosacea-prone skin, she says.

Know when to see a dermatologist

There are over-the-counter creams for rosacea (ahem, see the 15 best above). And while you may find a formula that truly helps soothe your rosacea, just know that drugstore creams may not work for everyone. “For those experiencing severe redness or pimples and nodules, it may be time to consult with an expert,” says Dr. Collins. Or, if your irritated skin isn’t responding to over-the-counter treatments, she recommends “seeking the advice of a board-certified dermatologist asap.” This leads us to...

What do dermatologists give for rosacea?

line break

The common prescription medications that dermatologists give for rosacea include one (or more) of the following, per dermatologist Jenny Liu, MD: (1) azelaic acid in a strength of 15 to 20 percent; (2) metronidazole cream, i.e., a topical antibiotic and anti-inflammatory agent; (3) sulfur-based products to relieve inflammation; and (4) topical retinoids to boost collagen production and strengthen skin.
