• Charlotte Tilbury relaunched her famed Magic Cream after 13 years.
  • Now, the formula’s packed with peptides to firm skin and reduce wrinkles over time, plus soothing ingredients to calm irritation.
  • Cosmo’s beauty editor tested the new cream for two months and immediately noticed brighter under-eyes.

Teyana Taylor, Penelope Cruz, Celine Dion, Grace Van Patten, George Clooney, and me—we all have one thing in common: We all got to test the brand-new Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream months before it officially launched. What started as a secret cream Charlotte used on set with celebrities to prep their skin before makeup turned into a global icon (one jar is sold every minute). But after 13 years, Charlotte Tilbury decided to upgrade the formula. More glow, better ingredients, and a swath of clinical data to back it all up—all with the same rich consistency and price point. Could it be too good to be true? I went to London to find out.

About the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream

Charlotte herself described this cream as a “viral whisper around the world” before it was ever introduced as a real product. Then it was just a tub filled with “Charlotte’s secret”—a rich moisturizer to smooth, tighten, and firm skin so makeup goes on smoothly. And clients would try to steal it from the chair.

When Charlotte Tilbury launched her eponymous brand 13 years ago, Magic Cream became one of the very first products. But makeup was different then. “Glow” wasn’t really a thing; everyone wanted a matte, poreless face, not shine. But the world is different now. We’re living in what Charlotte calls “generation exhausted.” We’re getting less sleep than ever before. Our stress levels are the highest they’ve ever been. We’re living in poor air quality, harsh UV, and high temperatures, and our skincare routines are packed with strong actives and exfoliants. It’s no wonder the pendulum has swung to healthy, radiant skin—it’s harder than ever to achieve.

So it only made sense to supercharge the formula in 2026. With the same consistency and smoothing technology, Magic Cream now contains what the brand calls the Recoverstem Peptide: a blend of 100 peptides extracted from the stem cells of the Eternal Youth Jasmine plant (which just so happens to be native to Ibiza, just like Charlotte herself). Its cells continuously renew so the plant never wilts, hence its name. What exactly does it do for your skin though? It encourages cell renewal to jumpstart collagen and elastin production, which over time can help smooth fine lines and wrinkles, boost elasticity and firmness, plump up areas of lost volume, and even support the skin barrier. The new cream also puts an emphasis on the importance of soothing skin, so it contains ectoin, rosehip oil, and oat extract—all of which help calm irritation.

What’s not changing? The formula still uses the same “cushion and lift mesh” technology to make your skin look smoother and increase the longevity of your makeup. And I’m so shocked to say: The price isn’t going up either, despite all the new tech and ingredients that went into the new formula.

When I first heard about Charlotte’s new Magic Cream, I thought about all the hearts that were about to break. I’ve been a beauty editor for eight years, and I know just how dedicated people are to this cream (I’m actually personally responsible for turning many of my friends onto it when I’ve had an excess pile of samples over the years). And I know how devastating it is when a reformulation suddenly replaces your favorite product. Personally, though, I had never been that into this cream. I know it’s a fantastic face primer (every time I have my makeup done by a Charlotte Tilbury artist, it’s the best I’ve ever looked), but it’s never been suitable for my acne-prone skin to use all the time. The before-and-afters of this new version though? They convinced me to slather it all over my face, zits be damned.

How I tested:

Before testing the cream, I flew across the pond to the birthplace of CT—and my skin was in shambles, to be frank. I was experiencing a grade-A-level breakout, my complexion was dull and lifeless (January core), and my dark circles reached a new low. Perfect conditions to test a new cream, huh?

I coated my face in this cream a handful of times in the morning to really see how well it’d hold onto makeup, but I chose not to put it everywhere at night to avoid some breakouts. Instead, I chose to dab the formula under my eyes and all over my neck—two areas that could use all the assistance from those peptides.

My Review:

The first thing I noticed as I swiped Magic Cream on my skin is that it feels exactly the same as the original. If you didn’t know it, you’d have no idea the formula was now packed with peptides. Well, until you looked at your face a few weeks later. The fine lines around my eyes look less noticeable, and my under-eyes suddenly seem like I’m getting sleep again. I’m 29 and starting to think about taking extra care of my eyes and neck, so I’ve been focusing on those two areas every night for the last two months. And I really notice a difference. My eyes look brighter and more awake in the morning, and my under-eye bags aren’t as prominent.

The formula still contains shea butter, which unfortunately, does often make me break out. But on a special occasion, I’m willing to deal with the consequences for how freaking amazing this makes my makeup look. This gives my foundation something to grip onto, whether I’m using a full-coverage matte or a glowy skin tint.

Final thoughts:

Most of the time, reformulations are either a snooze or, worse, a redo that has you hoarding the old formula on eBay. But Charlotte Tilbury knew not to mess with such a superstar unless she had something really good to replace it with. And honestly, you’d barely even notice that it’s different. The consistency feels exactly the same, just upgraded with a slew of ingredients that’ll improve your skin over time.

After trying Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream for two months, I can confirm the innovation is worth all the fuss. My makeup looks better and stays on longer—but that’s only secondary to the way it’s improved my fine lines and under-eye bags.
