A few months ago, I traveled more than 10 hours to a small community in Mexico called Costa Careyes, which translates to Turtle Coast. Now, you might be wondering why I’m even telling you this. Well, it's because the trip was with Sweed Beauty, who took a few beauty editors on a press trip there to test out some best-selling products and host a sea turtle release. For every mascara they sell, they save a baby turtle. So, I tried the Cloud Mascara (see, it’s all connecting now), which also happens to be the mascara Sabrina Carpenter used while on her Short n’ Sweet tour (see her bag dump below).

Going into the three-day trip, I honestly wasn’t super familiar with the products. I knew the brand had some celebrity fans, and I’d heard praises of the Eyelash Growth Serum sung throughout the beauty community, but other than that, I was a novice in the world of Sweed. So what better way to test the beloved Cloud Mascara than during a couple of 90-degree beach days in Mexico to really put its powers to the test?!

About Sweed's Beauty Cloud Mascara:

  • Shades: Black, brown
  • Price: $30
  • Key ingredients: Panthenol

My first impression was the precision of the wand—it separates my lashes really nicely, which is one of my biggest qualms when judging a formula. There's nothing I hate more than clumps and chunks. It also adds tons of length and volume with just a few swipes, as you can see below, making it ideal for my everyday 10-minute makeup routine before work. And as a beauty editor with many events, from early breakfast meetings to late-night dinners (plus the office in between), the Cloud Mascara lasts until the very end of my long days without flaking.

It comes in both brown and black shades, which I greatly appreciate as someone with lighter eyes who doesn’t love a super-dark mascara for everyday wear. The clean ingredient list is also sensitive-eye friendly, including panthenol for added nourishment for the lashes. And it makes me look much more awake in seconds, thanks to its lifting abilities, which I didn’t realize were so dramatic until I saw my before and after photos.

Months later, the mascara still holds up as a favorite among my cluttered makeup collection. If it could survive heat and humidity on a splashing boat ride and sweaty beach days in Mexico (which it did), I knew it would hold up in my everyday life. Not to mention, the sea turtle release was one of the most wholesome experiences of my life—we freed about 200 newly hatched turtles into the ocean thanks to Sweed.

And if the Cloud Mascara is good enough for Sabrina Carpenter strutting and dancing around the stage for three hours, then it's definitely good enough for me.
