As I perched in my seat, inhaling every sensual scene of Emerald Fennell's latest, Wuthering Heights, my eyes were stuck on one singular makeup look across the entire film. Margot Robbie, who plays Cathy, has an unmistakable rosy cheek and lip look in nearly every single scene. In fact, every character throughout the film sports a flushed cheek, including the men. IMO, it makes the film all the hornier.
Siân Miller, the film's makeup and hair designer, told Allure she was inspired by the "pomegranate girl" TikTok trend from a few years ago to create a "clean, flushed look" for Cathy. When the characters are at Wuthering Heights, the home Cathy and Jacob Elordi's Heathcliff grew up on, Miller wanted the characters' cheeks to look "weather-beaten." Sure, high winds'll do that to ya. But so will years of pent-up sexual tension, no?
To get the look yourself, the real trick to this makeup look is blush placement. Dubbed by makeup artists as "boy blush" in recent years, pigment is dragged down the cheeks toward the corners of the mouth. It's not the snatched Instagram baddie blush we're used to seeing, or even the sunswept cheek glow. Doing blush in this way mimics the look of an actual flush of embarrassment (or being in the cold for too long), which really aids in selling just how exasperated Cathy is around Heathcliff (which is also exactly how I would react next to Jacob Elordi, tbh).
Miller's kit was actually filled with products Cosmo editors already really love too. According to her interview with Allure, she used a mix of a few different cream blushes: Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush in the shades Hope and Happy (a mauve and light pink, respectively), Merit Flush Balm in Après and Postmodern (a berry and deep pink, respectively), and No.1 de Chanel Lip and Cheek Balm in Berry Boost. On Isabella, played by Alison Oliver, Miller opted for a baby pink powder blush (specifically, Kylie Cosmetics Hybrid Blush in Winter Kissed), which has a dainty, subdued feel that's a bit more innocent.
These rosy cheeks paired perfectly with a complementary lip, although it didn't look like Cathy was ever really wearing lipstick. For this, Miller chose Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Rose, a fresh, lightweight wash of sheer color.
To be fair, though, Wuthering Heights is kind of a beauty lovers' paradise. From archival Chanel jewelry as hair accessories to face gems to resemble sweat to cascading braids, the film is truly packed with moments we wanna copy.
