OUR METHODOLOGY

  • June 2025: Cosmo editors begin researching, testing, and reviewing more than 500 products, medications, and treatments—all designed to prevent and treat various forms of acne and acne scarring.
  • July 2025: Cosmo editors tap their network of acne experts—including four board-certified dermatologists and two A-list aestheticians—to share the best acne products, medications, and treatments that they use on themselves and recommend to their patients.
  • September 2025: After weeks of testing and reviewing, Cosmo editors select a winner among the nominees in every category. Selects are made based on various factors, including efficacy, ease of use, accessibility, affordability, and expert insights.
  • November 2025: We share our list of winners—complete with first-person reviews and tester notes—with you!
