Welcome to Cosmo HQ Review, the corner of the internet where our team of beauty-obsessed editors shares their unfiltered, honest thoughts on the latest and greatest launches in skin, hair, makeup, and fragrance...just for you.
We're living in an unrivaled era of beauty innovation when it comes to skincare tools. From techy microcurrent devices that firm and lift the face to LED masks that promote glowing skin, my bathroom shelves have basically become a mini medspa. One brand that's undeniably leading the charge in this space is Shark Beauty. From their viral Glam hair styler to their Cosmo-approved Cryo Glow LED mask, Shark knows a thing or two about creating at-home beauty gadgets and tools that truly work.
So when Shark told me about FacialPro Glow, the latest device in their stacked lineup, I jumped at the chance to try it out. The FacialPro Glow is officially available to shop on October 6, but I've already been testing it for weeks (brag) to get all the details, just for you. Ahead, my full review of the Shark FacialPro Glow, including a breakdown of how it works, who it's best for, and, of course, if it's worth the splurge.
About the Shark FacialPro Glow
- Price: $399
- Treatment attachments: 2 (the exfoliation attachment and the Depuffi attachment)
- Hydra-abrasion tips: 4 (two t-zone tips and two wide tips)
The Shark FacialPro Glow is an at-home device designed to replicate the kind of facial you’d get at a medspa or dermatologist’s office. The base comes with two interchangeable attachments: an exfoliation attachment and the Depuffi attachment. The exfoliation attachment uses a dual-pump system to flush out dead skin cells and impurities, while simultaneously infusing hydration into the skin. When using the exfoliation attachement, you can swap between different hydra-tip styles, depending on where you're exfoliating and whether you want gentle exfoliation or a deeper pore cleanse. There’s also the Depuffi attachment, a sculpting head with heat and cooling modes. The warming function preps and softens the skin for extractions, while the cooling function helps calm redness, reduce puffiness, and boost circulation as a finishing step.
The kit also includes two Korean-developed skincare products that work in tandem with the device. An exfoliating serum that's made with AHAs and BHAs and intended to use before the exfoliation head to unclog pores and smooth texture. Then there's a hyaluronic acid–based serum to use with the hydra-tips, which help penetrate moisture into the skin. Both come in bottles that will likely last for a couple of months (refills are sold separately). So, this isn’t just a gadget, it’s a whole regimen that combines exfoliation, hydration, and sculpting in one.
How does the Shark FacialPro Glow work
The entire FacialPro Glow with the Depuffi attachment is five steps: heating, exfoliation, cleansing, hydrating, and cooling. But you can also use any of the attachments as a one-off treatment if you don't have time for a full facial. Here's the breakdown:
Step 1. To start, use the sculpting attachment on the warmest setting to gently prep and heat your face. This softens the skin's surface and preps pores for easier extractions.
Step 2. Next, apply the AHA + BHA gel, letting the acids work on both the surface and deeper layers of the skin to loosen dead cells and unclog pores. This step preps the skin for a thorough, spa-level cleanse and boosts the efficacy of the device's extractions.
Step 3. Once your skin is all prepped, fill the tank with water (I used sink water) and turn on the device. Gently slide the suction across your freshly-exfoliated face with the hydra-abrasion tip of your choosing. This begins the extraction process, visibly removing dirt, oil, and dead skin. When the water runs out, open the tank and see all the gunk that’s been removed—it's the most satisfying yet slightly disgusting proof of the device’s effectiveness.
Step 4. Next, replace the water with the hydrating formula and run the device again. Now, the skin is simultaneously infused with hydrators for a radiant glow. You can also swap out the hydra-abrasion tips as needed to adjust for comfort and coverage.
Step 5. Finally, finish off with the sculpting attachment again, but on the cool setting. The cooling step helps reduce puffiness, boost circulation, and define facial contours, leaving the face looking refreshed and sculpted.
My Shark FacialPro Glow review:
As a skincare aficionado who counts down the days until her monthly facials, I was super excited about bringing those glowy results into my own bathroom. When I first got my hands on the device, it was much smaller than I expected—Shark’s LED Mask is a bit on the chunkier side and not the easiest to travel with, so I was pleasantly surprised by this compact kit.
Now, for the facial itself. I was absolutely obsessed with the Depuffi attachment. Think of it like a gua sha or a lymphatic drainage massager. The shape fits the face perfectly, really getting in on all the contours and curves of my cheeks and jawline. And as someone who doesn’t love the steam part of a facial, I appreciated the heat setting as a gentler way to soften the skin. Then, the cooling setting is perfect to close out the facial by reducing post-suction redness and providing some extra depuffing. I would even use the cooling attachment on its own when I don’t have time for a full facial or when I’m feeling hungover puffy. It has six temperature settings total—three levels of both hot and cold.
The cleansing, extraction, and hydration attachment involves a bit more of a learning curve, especially if you’ve never had a Hydrafacial before (the device takes inspo from that technology). It basically feels like something is gently suctioning your skin while simultaneously soaking it with water. It’s not painful, but make sure to hold your skin in place while gliding it so you don’t pull on your face too much. The exfoliator formula felt a bit strong for my sensitive skin, so I opted to use my own instead. I still had great results—aka smooth skin and lots of dirt and dead skin—in my tank afterwards. However, the fill tank requires an ample amount of the hydrating serum to be poured into it, so I can see myself running low on it after just four or five uses.
After completing the five-step routine, my skin was shockingly smooth and hydrated. Full disclosure: I first tried the device on a night when I was crying and my face was so puffy (crashing out over apartment hunting in NYC is normal, okay!), so it was the perfect time to try it out. And I think my before and after photos pretty much speak for themself. You can see decreased puffiness all around my face, and my complexion overall looks naturally glowier and more even. All in all, the treatment itself takes about ten minutes from start to finish. And I'd allocate some extra time to let the exfoliator sit and fill up the tank, so it's really like a total of 15 minutes for the full experience.
What other Cosmo editors thought of the Shark FacialPro Glow
"My skin has never felt so clean and looked so radiant from an at-home device, and I love that I can achieve these results in the comfort of my own home as winter sets in. This device will be perfect for you if you like a weekly ritual, as it’s not a quick tool to use–you aren’t just washing your face and popping it on like an LED mask. You’re prepping your skin, filling the tank, using the tool (which is 5 steps), and then, if you choose to, you’re finishing off with the Depuffi attachment. But I promise you, it’s so, so worth the time taken." —KEEKS REID, BEAUTY DIRECTOR AT COSMO UK
The final verdict
Do I think the FacialPro Glow will replace an hour-long facial at the hands of an expert aesthetician? Not quite. But for in-between maintenance, it’s a really nice add-on to my self-care routine—especially for my dry skin. The five-step regimen is intimidating at first, but easy to master once you get the hang of it. Basically, the suction device handles cleansing and hydration, while the metal sculptor with different temperature settings manages skin prep and depuffing. After a few uses, it feels intuitive and delivers smooth and glowy skin in mere minutes in the comfort of your home.
