- Tortoise clips and crochet caps replace summer’s floral barrettes and bandanas for a chic, fall-ready vibe.
- Pumpkin and caramel shades dominate—warming up both blondes and brunettes for autumn.
- Textured bobs with layers and dimension are the go-to haircut for effortless style across all hair types.
As we head into the autumn months, it’s not just the weather that’s changing. Our beauty routines are, too. Personally, my hair color needs a little refresh after the summer sun, I'm ready for a short haircut to clean up my dead ends, and my go-to hair accessories are ready for a seasonal upgrade into something more cold-weather friendly.
To help with the fall transition, I spoke with celebrity hairstylists to get all the intel on what their clients are asking for this season and all the biggest fall hair trends. I have my post-summer hair appointment booked for next week, and I *will* be using the below looks for my inspo. From elevated bobs to the hottest hair colors, here are the best fall hair trends for 2025.
Tortoise Accessories
I couldn’t walk down the street this summer without spotting a flower clip or a butter-yellow barrette in someone’s hair. But as we trade linen dresses for leather jackets and lean into moodier wardrobes, the hair accessory vibe is shifting too. Tortoise shell pieces are chic, versatile, and the perfect complement to our darker, fall-ready outfits. Whether you're throwing your strands up into a claw clip or a high pony, there's no wrong way to incorporate this autumn design into your hair look.
Crochet Caps
Bandanas also dominated hair looks this summer, and now we're swapping them out for crochet caps. This accessory was all over the streets of NYC during fashion week, and it's basically the transitional fall version of your winter hat. Not to mention, it's a perfect way to disguise day-three hair or messy bedhead without having to restyle it.
Pumpkin Copper Hair
Out of all the fall 2025 hair color trends, this one is my absolute favorite. Whether you’re thinking of going red or want to warm up your current hair color, this statement shade is rich, vibrant, and perfect for autumn. "Warm copper hair is a vibrant mix of red, orange, and golden undertones that catches the light with a sunlit glow," says hair stylist Michelle Hong."The color gives the hair a rich, dimensional warmth."
Textured Bobs
Bobs have been gracing the chins and shoulders of seemingly everyone these days, and for fall, textured bobs with dimension and layers are taking center stage. "I love a bob with some texture or a little movement within—especially if it's chin length or even as short as the corners of the mouth," says celebrity hair stylist James Pecis. A textured bob is generally easy to pull off, no matter your hair type. "Curly and coily textures look amazing with layered cuts and bobs that give the hair extra definition and bounce," says hair stylist Rogerio Cavalcante.
Caramel Hair
This in-between caramel shade for fall is the perfect balance of blonde and brunette. For blondes, it’s low-maintenance and keeps your color looking fresh without constant touch-ups. For brunettes looking to go lighter, it’s a warm way to brighten your hair without committing to full blonde. The subtle blend of golden and brown tones adds instant warmth and dimension, making it an effortless transition from summer to autumn. "Caramel and gold create a warm blend that's soft and multi-dimensional with minimal upkeep," says Hong.
