We’re not saying a lush vacation after one of the most stressful periods of life—wedding planning—will guarantee you and your spouse will be together forever. But honeymooning is a great way to decompress from wedding stress as you start this exciting new chapter together. It’s also an excuse to have really great sex. Lots of it. Preferably somewhere really beautiful. And your honeymoon, when you’re literally celebrating the fact that you just committed to each other forever, is the perfect time to get it on. Honeymoon sex is basically vacation sex with an ultra-romantic twist.

“The honeymoon offers a chance to (re)connect after the often-hectic wedding season. It’s an opportunity to relax, reset, and enjoy one another’s company," says Jess O’Reilly, PhD, sexologist for Astroglide.

It helps that on your honeymoon, enjoying each other’s company is basically your entire agenda. No stress, no obligations, just loving each other up, however that looks to you. Maybe you want to go deeply romantic with champagne and massage candles. Maybe you’ve been compiling a to-do list of adventurous new sex positions. Or maybe you just want to make good use of that luxe hotel shower. Now’s the time to try it all!

“If you want to change things up and try something new (go you!), consider positions that put you at ease, allow you to slow down, and give you space to explore pleasure across the entire body,” suggests O’Reilly.

Give yourselves the gift of making it fun and pressure-free. “You don’t have to do it all. You don’t have to swing from the chandelier, contort yourselves into a pretzel, or test your flexibility as a measure of your love,” says O’Reilly. “Wild sex may be or may not be a part of it. Sex during your honeymoon doesn’t necessarily lay the groundwork for your marriage,” she says. Some of your best moments in bed might involve a night in with a movie and room service. You do you.

Remember: Sex doesn’t have to be a ten out of ten every time. “If you stumble, get nervous, or end up laughing together instead of orgasming, this just means there’s more space for growth, curiosity and the excitement of the unknown,” says O’Reilly.

Below, five honeymoon sex positions to help you relax, reconnect, and/or defile the hotel bed with that gorgeous new spouse of yours.

The Do Not Disturb

How to Do It: Lie on your sides facing each other. Wrap your arms around your partner and pull each other close. “Enjoy slow kisses, eye contract, grinding and full-body contact,” says O’Reilly.

Pros: “This one takes minimal effort, but offers maximum intimacy,” she says. Perfect for reconnecting after all the wedding chaos.

Cons: This is amazing for slow, sensual sex, but not for fast pumping. If you need more speed, roll it on its side to missionary or cowgirl.

Switch It Up: “You can add a pillow between your knees or under your hips for support or to play with different angles,” she says.

Make It Hotter: Put (another) ring on it with a vibrating cock ring to add extra stimulation.

The Wedding Shower

How to Do It: “This one is steamy,” says O’Reilly. “One partner stands with a leg propped up on the side of the tub, on the ledge or on a shower bench. The other stands facing them, making sure to hold on for balance.”

Pros: Shower sex is sexy and intimate, so it’s a great way to celebrate your new marriage.

Cons: It can also be oddly drying. Use a silicone-based lube that won’t rinse away with water.

Switch It Up: If you’re too tired at the end of the day, try it in the morning. “You can enjoy the rest of your day feeling relaxed, connected, and more than satisfied,” she says.

Make It Hotter: Got a removable shower head? Use it to your advantage—they make incredible clitoral stimulators.

The Wedded Bliss

How to Do It: One person sits cross-legged. The other sits on their lap facing them and wrapping their legs around the other’s waist. “You can rock in rhythm while synching your breath,” says O’Reilly. Further the connection by making eye contact and putting a hand over each other’s hearts.

Pros: “This position can feel sensual, grounding and highly intimate. It’s perfect for relaxing—no acrobatics required,” she says.

Cons: If you’re fans of hard and fast thrusting, this won’t be your jam. Use it for connection, then switch to something that’s more orgasmic for you.

Switch It Up: Use a pillow to prop up the upper partner’s and ease closeness and penetration.

Make It Hotter: If you like the connection but need more stimulation, move apart from each other, hooking your legs over each other’s and keeping the eye gazing going. Both of you can pop on a vibrator and hand the remotes to each other. Hot!

The Newlywed Chair

How to Do It: Make use of that random corner chair in the hotel room. “One partner sits in a very comfy chair and the other takes a pillow to kneel between their legs and go down on them,” says O’Reilly. The kneeling partner can use their hands to enhance what their mouth is doing by stroking their partner’s thighs and/or their genitals.

Pros: “When you’re in an unfamiliar environment like a hotel, you’re more likely to experiment beyond the bed, so make use of the hotel furniture to explore new positions,” she says.

Cons: Some people don’t want their bare butt on hotel furniture. Understandable! Place down a hotel towel for an easy fix.

Switch It Up: “The seated partner can take the kneeling partner’s head in their hands to offer gentle guidance with regard to speed, rhythm, pressure and more,” she says.

Make It Hotter: Do the opposite and let the kneeling partner control everything. The kneeling partner can use edging while their new spouse appreciates how well they’ve married.

To Have and To Hold

@LUCYMACARONI

How to Do It: “This is one of the most versatile positions,” says O’Reilly. One partner lies flat on their stomach. The other lies flat on top of them, facing the same way and covering their body.

Pros: Even though there’s no eye contact, it can feel extra-intimate because of how close you are. There’s basically no space between you, after all.

Cons: Penetration can be a bit difficult if the giver has a smaller penis or strap-on. Try a pillow or sex wedge under the receiver’s hips to prop them up for easier access. (An inflatable sex wedge is very travel-friendly…)

Switch It Up: “It’s perfect for whispering sweet (or dirty) nothings in their ear,” says O’Reilly.

Make It Hotter: Place a small vibrating toy underneath the receiver for clitoral stimulation during penetration.
