• How I Met Your Father actor Francia Raisa donated one of her kidneys to Selena Gomez amid a lupus flare-up in 2017.
  • Selena got married to Benny Blanco on Sept. 27, and her kidney donor was reportedly not invited to the ceremony.
  • Francia opened up about the alleged wedding snub and debunked any feud rumors between her and the Rare Beauty founder.

Francia Raisa is opening up about her kidney transplant to Selena Gomez—and whether she attended her high-profile wedding with Benny Blanco. During a recent interview, Francia got candid about where she currently stands with the Rare Beauty founder.

“I know she’s getting married, and I’m very happy for her. And look...she has a life, and she is already a billionaire, and I am grateful that I could do that for her,” the How I Met Your Father actor told reporter Magaly Ortiz Rodrigu at a bookstore event ahead of Selena’s nuptials.

Celebs like Taylor Swift, Martin Short, Steve Martin, Paul Rudd, Zoë Saldaña, Paris Hilton, Camila Cabello, Cara Delevingne, SZA, Eric André, Mark Ronson, and Ed Sheeran attended the wedding. It’s unclear whether Francia was in attendance, but according to the Daily Mail, it seems she might have been snubbed from an invitation.

As for the life-saving procedure, Francia said, “Look, from the beginning, the doctors told me it’s a donation. If you’re going to donate a dollar to St. Jude or somewhere else, you’re not going to call to say, ‘Hey, what are you doing with my dollar?’”

She continued, “It’s a donation and it’s something nice that I was able to do. I am grateful that I am alive, and I can say that I have saved a life.”

Fans on the Fauxmoi subreddit were quick to jump at Francia’s defense, with one writing, “This is how I know I’m petty as fuck because if I gave someone my organ, I’m getting a wedding invitation.” Another added, “This feels like a very polite PR answer and I’m bummed she has to be put in this position.”

In 2017, Francia donated one of her kidneys to the “Love You Like a Love Song” singer, who had been enduring a lupus flare-up at the time.

“There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis,” Sel wrote in an Instagram post sharing the news.

That same year, Francia attended Billboard’s Women in Music event alongside Selena, who was honored as the Woman of the Year. She went on to thank her during her emotional acceptance speech, saying, “To be honest, I think Francia should be getting this award because she saved my life.”

Since then, Francia has also openly supported Selena in other endeavors, as she attended her Rare Impact Fund benefit in October 2023.

As for where their relationship currently stands, Francia admitted that any rumors surrounding a feud were completely false. “Well, right now, what you are asking me is nonsense that has been in the media, and there are too many rumors. I’ve never said anything,” she said during the bookstore chat, adding, “When that rumor came out that I had gotten angry or something like that because she was smoking, I wasn’t aware of those rumors.”

She added, “No one knows what’s going on, and neither she nor I are talking about it. One day, maybe we will address it.”

Seems like there’s nothing to see here…for now, anyway.
