Please cast your poor, tired mind back to Commonwealth Day 2020, the fated moment that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their final appearance as working royals before leaving England and starting their new life in California.
Some background to set the scene? Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, Kate Middleton, and Prince William were asked not to join in on the Queen’s official royal procession, and a Daily Mail source said the Sussexes felt “quite sensitive and emotional about it.” Meanwhile, everything was captured on film—including Harry, Meghan, Kate, and William interacting....
And now the Daily Mail has gone ahead and dusted off a lip reader's analysis of the conversation Kate and William had right after—while sitting just one row in front of Meghan and Harry.
According to lip reader Jeremy Freeman, Harry turned to Meghan post Hellos, and said "At least they acknowledged, unlike last time." Meanwhile, William sat down next to Kate and said "That was executed well. It's quite good to connect instead of holding things back like always." Oh, and then he added, "I know it's bad, I ought to have words with him. He'll shout and God knows what but things'll change, won't it?"
While you take a moment to process that, FYI body language expert Blanca Cobb also had something to say, noting "As Meghan waves, she and Harry say hi. Kate doesn’t look in their direction but talks briefly to the lady in white [Sophie, Countess of Wessex] who’s seated right behind her. As Kate sits down, her face is expressionless." She also claimed that the greeting seemed "lackluster among the four of them, particularly Kate’s lack of acknowledgment. Even though it’s a formal occasion, Kate could have smiled or waved."
