In February 2020, right before the pandemic-induced worldwide shutdown, Serena Kerrigan quit her full-time job and began building an empire, and it all started…with a date. Like most single 20somethings during that time, she too was experimenting with virtual dating, except instead of awkwardly doing it on FaceTime from her childhood bedroom like the rest of us, she took to Instagram Live. Thousands of viewers tuned in to watch her in action, and it’s easy to see why—she was good at dating, and people wanted to learn how they could be too. She called the Instagram show Let’s Fucking Date, and it was so successful, she literally made it her whole brand.
In the three years since, Serena—who legally changed her name to Serena Fucking Kerrigan, FYI, and often goes by SFK—launched three wildly popular conversation card games (Let’s Fucking Date, Let’s Fucking Fuck, and Let’s Fucking Play), which have reached more than $1 million in U.S. sales. She’s amassed a following of more than 178K followers on Instagram and 579.3K on TikTok by giving dating advice that encourages women to “do it for the plot” (aka: get out of their dating comfort zones and be the main character of their lives), and in 2022, she embarked on a live stand-up show tour across NYC, D.C., Philadelphia, and Boston called Do It for the Plot, where she preached tips on confidence and recalled her own dating horror stories. In honor of her 29th birthday, she’s bringing the show back for another round on March 22 and 23 in New York City. Unsurprisingly, both nights are almost entirely sold out.
