Yes, it is very depressing to think that the beloved Outlander will be ending with season 8. What will fans do without their yearly dose of Jamie and Claire? It's been nearly 10 years!! I guess they'll just have to rewatch every season, over and over again, for the rest of time?? But before falling into a whole pit of despair, listen up: there is a very exciting prequel series coming to Starz August 8, and it might be enough to keep you going. While the series had been previously announced, Starz released the first footage of the series today, and... buckle up, because this looks so, so good.
Okay, what's the plot?
Here's the official description from Starz:
Outlander: Blood of My Blood will explore the lives and relationship of Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) and Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy). The series will center on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods.
And the trailer for the show just dropped, and omg, there's a major reveal in here. It looks like Claire's parents Julia and Henry are also time travelers!!
This is a major piece of lore to be adding to the universe. As far as Claire knew, her parents died in a car crash. If they actually went back in time instead, that's huge. It was always a question of how they would connect the two love stories in this show, but now we know! Both couples will be in the same time period.
Here are some other glimpses of the show from previously released images.
Hot!
What else can we assume from the plot based on the books/show?
Because both these couples are mentioned in the show and the books, we can get some clues as to what the plot might be. Emphasis on might. The show has taken creative liberties in the past, so this could be incorrect.
Jamie's mom and dad (Ellen and Brian Fraser) were a bit of a Romeo and Juliet story. She was supposed to marry someone far more wealthy, and in fact, the marriage had all been arranged. But then she eloped with Brian Fraser (!), and the rest, as they say, is history.
As mentioned, as far as we knew, Jamie and Claire's parents (Julia and Henry Beauchamp) died in a car crash when Claire was five years old. The choice on the show's part to have them go through the stones is a really interesting one. It looks like they're separated while in that time period, so how will they get back to each other? What challenges will they face? Will they interact with Brian and Ellen? It looks like it!! There's a lot to play with there.
When will the show premiere?
Drumroll please... Starz just announced that the show will premiere August 8!!! Which is, coming up pretty soon! Mark your calendars.
