Cardi B’s new album title begs a (sort of) simple question: Am I the Drama? According to some since-deleted social media posts, it looks like Nicki Minaj might hold that title. Just when we thought their longtime feud was put behind them, the “Chun Li” rapper seemingly reignited it when she came for Cardi in several posts shared on Monday, September 29.
“$4.99,” Nicki posted on X. This appeared to be a jab at iTunes’ promotional price for Cardi’s album, which recently landed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Nicki then referenced Cardi’s song “Magnet” in a post, writing, “Abcdefgeeeeeeee / SUR GER REE TO LOOK LIKE MEEEEEE / tell the rat & tell J ZEEEEEE / Rico Fraud & PERJURY.”
Then, in a separate post, she wrote, “Fallin off the charts wit a big bellyyyy / RUNNING TRAINS. Barefoot, still smellyyyyy / Still. You. Could. Not. outsell. meeeeee.”
Cardi then entered the chat to clap back at Nicki. “You must’ve missed me, huh crazy?? Now kiss my feet,” she wrote in response to the series of X posts, adding, “Nothing more annoying than a bored btch.”
The “Bodega Baddie” rapper then made several jabs at Nicki, referring to her as “Cocaine Barbie” and rewriting the same “Magnet” verse that Nicki seemingly referenced in her deleted digs.
“Damn she was streaming Magnet hard as hell huh??” Cardi wrote, with a series of laughing emojis.
As Nicki went off on X, Cardi was chilling and making dinner. “Naaaa cuz I was really baking ribs and making blondie brownies and here come this btch bothering me on a damn Monday,” the Grammy winner joked.
Once Cardi cleared the air surrounding Nicki’s posts about her pregnancy and children, she defended her sophomore album, suggesting that Nicki refocus her energy on industry peers that came up in the same era as her, from Rihanna to Taylor Swift.
“Why you keep bringing up my album?? It’s not the gag that you think it is,” Cardi wrote. “You been in the game like 16 years.. you need to compare yourself to YOUR peers that started around YOUR time. Rihanna, Taylor swift, Drake…those are the numbers you need to be competing wit and you can’t cuz you doing lower than all of them… I was in high school when you came out wtf is you comparing yourself to me for???”
Other rap girlies also reacted to the tense interaction between the “Motorsport” collaborators. Ice Spice simply posted a giggling emoji while former City Girls rapper JT took Nicki’s side after Cardi seemingly shaded her on “Magnet.”
“lol that bitch home ugly & mad no celebration! I would’ve been break dancing right now if I was #1 but she know she lied!!!!!” JT wrote, alleging that Cardi inflated her album sales to snag the top spot on the charts.
The heated social media exchange came after Cardi broke her silence about their longstanding feud on Call Her Daddy.
“People have made this whole story that I came in the industry to, like, take over somebody’s career,” Cardi said, without naming names. “I never thought that. I just wanted to become famous at what I like to do… Sometimes, people just don’t get along with each other.”
“This is what I was destined for. I was meant to become this, no matter who signed me, no matter what. I was going to be famous and I was going to be a rapper,” adding that she’s “done” with feeding into the alleged feud.
Nicki and Cardi’s alleged feud goes way back to 2017, when Cardi came into the scene with her breakout hit, “Bodak Yellow.” Later that year, they collaborated on Migos’ “Motorsport” and even made a joint appearance at the Met Gala with Moschino’s Jeremy Scott in 2018. They reportedly got into a physical altercation during a New York Fashion Week party hosted by Harper’s Bazaar in September 2018.
