Costume designer Natalie Tippett has finally told what really happened between her and David Harbour in a new statement.
In October, Lily Allen released her first studio album in seven years, West End Girl. The 14-track album included several allegations about her marriage with Stranger Things actor David Harbour. In one song she mentioned a woman called Madeline, and in another she alluded to an open marriage and said that her partner broke the rules with this woman, who was then revealed to be Natalie.
Now, two months since the song came out, Natalie has broken her silence, and has denied having a three-year affair with David.
In the lengthy statement posted to her Instagram story, the mom-of-one wrote, “I was hoping not to speak on this, but I am tired of this false narrative being pushed and circulated. This was such a marginal part of my life, but it’s now turned into a major disruption.
“I did not have a three year affair with anyone. I’m unsure why this person wants so badly to pit people against me or create this narrative that we both know is false based on the actual messages that I have saved between us. The same ones that have now been referenced in a song without my consent.”
She continued, “I feel extremely violated and I would love to stop getting messages telling me to die and other obscene things that I won’t share on this platform. I’m not sure why any fixation landed on me. I don’t weaponize women against women for the behavior of men, especially not in an open relationship. I’m wishing her all the success, money, healing and happiness and whatever else she’s seeking through this.”
She added that she is “aware of the repercussions speaking out” could cause, but said that she couldn't imagine “anything worse than what's already been said.”
She ended the statement by saying, “Please remember before sending more hate my way, I'm a human being not a character someone created.”
In Lily's track “Tennis” she sings, “So I read your text, and now I regret it / I can't get my head 'round how you've been playing tennis / If it was just sex, I wouldn't be jealous / You won't play with me and who's Madeline?”
In “Madeline,” the 40-year-old, adds, “How long has it been going on? Is it just sex or is there emotion?/ He told me it would stay in hotel rooms, never be out in the open.”
Natalie previously told the Daily Mail after the release, “Of course I’ve heard the song. But I have a family and things to protect. I have a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, and I understand this is going on. It’s a little bit scary for me.”
Lily has since revealed that Madeline was “a fictional character” and when asked if she was a “construct of others,” she told The Times, “Yes.”
Feels like October all over again! Let me go back and listen to West End Girl again...
