I spend a good chunk of my week at the office, and honestly, it’s literally freezing in there. Like, it’s so cold that everyday at 3 P.M. I find myself wishing for a space heater. Even better and less of a fire hazard: I ended up getting a Giant Fluffy Desk Blanket that I could wrap myself in when the frigid air conditioning started acting up. And let me tell you, after sitting under fluorescent lights in jeans for hours, it's a treat to be swaddled in a huge blanket. Like, this what it felt like in the womb? Maybe. Or better.
Not sure why I didn't think of that sooner, because my Giant Fluffy Couch* Blanket is my favorite thing that I own (see: my roommate's viral TikTok). Lola Blankets was the brand that started it all for me, but after deep-diving into the world of cushy, faux mink blankets, there was one name I kept seeing: Minky Couture. And based on what people were saying, it seemed to be, dare I say... exactly the same? Surely not, right? To get to the bottom of this, I tested both styles and did a full comparison so you can decide which one is best for you.
What's the difference between Minky Couture vs. Lola Blankets?
Both are known for these incredible faux mink blankets that have a silky, velvety, plush texture that’s meant to feel similar to real mink fur without actually involving animal products. Minky Couture is a Utah-based brand that's been around since 2009, whereas Lola Blankets is a newer player that came on the scene in 2021.
And honestly, they're both beloved! Celebs like Selena Gomez and Tate McRae have been spotted with their Lola Blankets. Influencers love their Minky Couture. Reddit users compare the pros and cons with fervor. So, yeah, the hype is real—but which is better?
First impressions
I had the Minky Couture blankets delivered to the office, and couldn't get over how huge they were. I gave one to our Assistant Beauty Editor Jasmine Hyman who later messaged me that "everyone has come over to [her] desk and pet [her]." I kept another at my desk, and honestly, I, too, caught myself petting it subconsciously because of how soft it was.
Cosmo's Social & Video Director Sarah Kiley Morse saw the blankets I was testing strewn all over my desk and informed me that she had a Minky Couture blanket in her cart at that very moment (I later checked back in with her and she said that it "totally delivered" and is "incredibly soft, extra warm, and comforting.")
I was absolutely convinced that Lola and Minky blankets felt identical. But then I recruited Associate Shopping Editor Meg Uy to do a blind feel test of both, and we realized that they weren't identical at all.
First up: My primary blind observation was that Blanket A felt slightly thicker than Blanket B, which is both a pro and a con. Extra cozy, but also not great for those of us prone to overheating. Secondly: Meg’s immediate reaction (though she started to doubt herself a minute into the blind test) was that Blanket B was “softer, even if just by a smidge"—and I found the same.
Editor's note: Blanket A was the classic Lola blanket, while Blanket B was the Minky Couture Hugs blanket.
Which one is softer, Lola or Minky Couture?
If you only owned one or the other, you would never know the difference or feel like you're missing out on anything. But here's how I'd describe the difference if I had to: The Lola Blanket felt SO soft to the point where it feels like the silkiest baby animal is sitting on your lap and blessing you with their presence. On the other hand, the Minky Couture blanket is a little thicker and cozier, but less silky-soft.
Both brands also sell a heavier options, which is great if you like the soothing effect of a weighted blanket. Lola makes true weighted blankets ranging from three to 10 pounds, whereas Minky makes "mid-weight" blankets that range from 1.4 to 5.6 pounds.
What's the cost difference? The size difference?
Shoutout to both brands for making their blankets in verrrry similar sizes, which made writing this section of the article easy. Basically, Lola is a little more affordable. However, if you fall in love with a certain Minky Couture color or pattern, check and see if it's on Amazon, where their (smaller selection of) products tends to be more discounted than the normal site!

What's the best way to handle washing these fluffy blankets?
First of all, yes, you can wash them. And no, you don't have to take them to the dry cleaners, thank goodness. But if there's only one thing you take away from this, let it be this: Heat will melt the soft fibers of your blanket. This means no hot water or dryer heat. Sorry for the dramatic bolding, but seriously, this will ruin your blanket.
Washing it with care won't, though! Both brands recommend washing the blanket alone in cold water on a delicate cycle with a mild detergent (no bleach, fabric softeners, pods, etc) and then let it air dry. Once it's fully dried, you can put it in the dryer on an air-only setting to fluff it up.
Are they just as soft after? I'll be honest—both blankets are softest right out of the package, zero use, zero washing. But they're still soft after a spin through the washing machine, even if there's just a liiiiittle less of that wildly-silky feeling. Personally, I feel like that's 100% worth it for a clean blanket.
The final verdict
If you're just looking for an incredibly soft blanket, both will 100% do the trick. They're similar in price point and softness. Both are fluffy on both sides, unlike other blankets I've tried (like one from Anthro that I love) that typically have a non-fluffy lining on one side.
But if my life depended on choosing one or the other, I'd say that Lola Blankets comes out on top thanks to their slightly-lower cost, chic collabs, and elevated color options. I found the color options of the Minky Couture blankets to be less luxe and more “flat” (lots of bright peppy colors, pastels, and patterns) whereas Lola offers blankets in so many rich, neutral, jewel, earth, and multi-dimensional tones.
But let's be honest, I'm going to continue to love and use my blankets from both. So, if you're still not sold on one brand over the other, let's break it down even further.
