Just two days after the Love Island USA season 7 reunion aired on Peacock, Amaya “Papaya” Espinal and Bryan Arenales have officially called it quits. Despite winning the show and splitting the $100K prize, the pair has gone their separate ways after exploring their connection outside the Villa.
Amaya dropped the bombshell in an Instagram Story post shared on Wednesday, August 27. “My Papayas—Bryan and I are no longer together. After leaving the villa, it became very clear that we were on two different journeys,” she wrote, in part.
She added, “Our visions didn’t align and relationships are supposed to be a team sport. You don’t have to drink the whole sea to know it’s salty. All love here and I truly wish him the best.”
During the reunion special, which was filmed on August 12, the pair debunked breakup rumors amid allegations that Bryan had cheated on Amaya during a public appearance at a nightclub.
“They’re trying to just throw any hate my way,” Bryan said at the time. “And with the cheating video, the hosting, I got paid to be there, I used to bartend back in the day, I had a lapse in judgment, we’ve talked about it.”
Amaya piped in with, “We definitely spoke about it. I’m also not a woman who would be with someone who doesn’t respect me. So if I’m still with him, it’s because the relationship dynamic is healthy and great.”
However, right before the Love Island USA season 7 reunion aired on August 25, fans noticed that the couple had seemingly unfollowed each other on social media.
Their split comes hours after Amaya made a solo appearance at the Caught Stealing movie premiere in NYC on August 26. At the time of this post, Bryan has yet to issue a statement on the split.
