In the ranking of Love Is Blind breakups, season 9’s Patrick Suzuki and Kacie McIntosh split has got to be one of the worst...if only because Patrick didn’t even seem to understand it was happening. Now that the world has watched their painfully awkward end, both are speaking out, with Kacie denying ghosting Patrick after Love Is Blind.
“When we got back to Denver, I did reach out to him. I know that’s getting misconstrued that I ghosted him. That’s not what happened,” Kacie said in a new interview with People. “I really did think I fell in love with him. I cared about him. I still care about him. I feel really bad that right now this is such weighing heavily on him.”
In case you were too busy cringing to really watch the end of Patrick and Kacie’s story, here’s a quick recap. After getting engaged and doing the first reveal, Kacie told producers she didn’t feel like her “attraction” to him would grow enough to warrant moving forward with the engagement, but she struggled to be clear with Patrick.
When they parted ways, it seemed like Kacie wanted to end the relationship for good while Patrick was under the impression that they would date back home in Denver, away from the cameras. Fast forward to present day and it’s obvious that this did not happen.
Both Kacie and Patrick have confirmed that they did not continue their relationship in the real world. There is, however, some disagreement as to whether or not they ever spoke again, despite Kacie’s claim that she reached out to him. In fact, Patrick has implied that he was never able to get closure.
“I had a range of thoughts. I tried to find the answer in my head forever,” he told People of the aftermath of their breakup.
“Pick through information, text her, call her, ask her for a conversation. I never got any of that. So I’m piecing it all together. Is it because I’m ugly? Is it because I’m not cool? Is it because I’m too much? Is it because she already had a boyfriend? Is it because she wanted to be famous?” (For the record, Kacie denies going into the pods with a boyfriend, telling People, “Patrick wasn’t the backup plan, he was the main plan.”)
He continued, “I’m running all these simulations in my head [because] naturally you want to find an answer.” After a while, Patrick said he realized he wasn’t ever going to get the answers he was looking for and had to “go on a healing journey.”
Patrick and Kacie clearly have some things to get off their chests. Hopefully we’ll get to see them get the closure they deserve at the reunion.
