Up until recently, I threw my passport straight into my personal item bag before I headed to the airport. And let me tell you...chaos almost always ensued. Investing in a passport wallet has been a game-changer, and, frankly, I'm not sure how I went so long without one. They're a godsend for keeping track of your passport, stashing other travel essentials like cash and cards, and even adding a touch of put-togetherness to your flying 'fit. You won't regret buying one—I'm living proof of that.

Now, to help ya find the perfect passport holder, I highly recommend first thinking about how you travel. Are you always panicked and flipping to the photo page seconds before you reach TSA, like moi? Look for a holder that keeps it open on the right page. Always paranoid that you're going to misplace your passport in a different country? Def consider an AirTag wallet (yep, that's a thing, and it's genius). Is style your top priority? Good news: there's no shortage of pretty options on my list. Here's a lil peek at what we're working with:

Our top picks for the best passport wallet holders of 2024:

Keep reading to find 10 of the absolute best passport wallets and holders money can buy. I've got options for travel minimalists and maximalists, those ballin' on a budget, people who love organization, and so on and so forth. Shop my top picks ahead, and start getting excited to ditch town.

Idk if it’s just me, but puffy bags give me the same warm and fuzzy feelings as my childhood stuffed animals. And, duh, this cute zippered passport wallet from Calpak is no exception. Not only does it have a spot for your passport, but it also features five card slots (yup, I counted), a pen loop for writing love notes to your seatmate (or, you know, filling out forms before you land), and a slip pocket on the back for your baggage claim sticker, Rhode lip balm, or whatever else you need handy.

I'd be doing the world a major disservice if I didn't include one of the top-rated passport wallets on Amazon. This magnetic cutie is minimalist-chic and will keep you organized thanks to designated spots for all the essentials, including your passport, driver's license, boarding pass, credit cards, and more. Plus, it comes in, like, a zillion color options, so you can pick the one that speaks to you the most.

Béis The Travel Wallet in Beige

The Travel Wallet in Beige

I own most of the products ever released from Shay Mitchell's popular travel brand, Béis, so I can confidently say that it's good stuff. This passport wallet is one of my fave pieces from the brand, because it's jam-packed with ways to stay organized. Think: four card slots, a passport holder, two pockets for cash, a pen loop, a zippered compartment, and an ID pocket. But that's not all—the best part is that it comes with two straps—a removable wristlet and a shoulder strap—so you can decide how you wanna wear it.

As someone with a knack for misplacing my most important things (phone, keys, anxiety meds—you name it), I've debated buying an Apple AirTag tracker for everything I've ever accidentally hidden from myself. So, when I discovered that passport holders with built-in slots for AirTags existed, you bet I went straight to Amazon and snagged this highly-rated one. I love that it looks like a passport, but prettier, and has pockets for everything I could need and then some—even a SIM card slot for when I’m traveling and pretending to be a pro photographer!

You can't go wrong with gifting the traveler in your life any of the passport holders on this list, but this one is hands-down the best if you want something personalized. You can add a hand-painted letter in the color of your choice on the right-hand side, just like you see in the pic. Inside, it fits eight cards and one passport, and the material is made from recycled water bottles (yay for sustainability!) with recycled vegan leather details.

Ashya Passport Bolo

Passport Bolo

Run (virtually, lol), don't walk to get your hands on this passport bolo. Not only is it on sale, but it's sold out in almost every colorway (okay, popular!). It's cowgirl-cool and as stylish as it gets, IMHO, plus it's adjustable, so you can wear it around your neck like a necklace, on your waist like a fanny pack, or across your chest like a crossbody.

I'm freakin' obsessed with Rifle Paper Co. I would happily accept anything they make, but this passport holder is definitely at the top of my list. It doesn't have as many features as some other options on this list, but it can hold your passport and boarding pass with ease. Just slip the front and back covers of your passport into the two inner slots and you'll be able to quickly flash your photo and deets when the TSA agent asks.

July Carry Me Cross Body

Carry Me Cross Body

I’m all about researching your options when shopping, which is why I had to include this genius crossbody from July. It can hold all your travel essentials—like your passport, AirPods, wallet, and sunglasses (I could go on, but you get the idea)—without them getting lost in a big bag. The exterior is made of an unbreakable German polycarbonate shell (I haven’t tried running it over, but I trust the brand), and it can double as a little handbag when you're out exploring a new city.

Royce RFID-Blocking Passport Organizer

RFID-Blocking Passport Organizer

Long story short, RFID technology is a sneaky way people can swipe your passport and/or credit card info. That's why lots of people have recently been searching for RFID-blocking passport holders, like this one from Royce. To be clear, there are tons of options out there, and not all of 'em are as pricey as this one—but not all of 'em are as luxe, either. Plus, personalization is included, and it comes in soooo many fun colors you rarely see with genuine leather.

Pinky promise I'm not throwing shade at my husband when I say he can't be trusted to hold onto his passport (he'd agree). That's where this Leatherology wallet comes in clutch. It's got two large pockets that fit both of our passports, plus a ton of other compartments, including eight credit card slots, an ID window, a coin pocket, and more. The all-around zippered design keeps everything safe and sound, too.

Are passport wallets a good idea?

shape, rectangle

Duh! The main appeal of a passport holder, at least in my experience, is that they (a) help me stay organized (and sane) on the go, (b) keep my most important documents safe, and (c) look super sleek. Way cuter than juggling your plane ticket, passport, and phone in one hand and your carry-on in the other, don't ya think?

Should you always carry your passport in your wallet?

shape, rectangle

While it ultimately comes down to personal preference, most people only carry their passport when they're traveling internationally since it’s, like, required. You don't need it to get Starbucks or go to work (unless you work for the FBI, idk???). I prefer to keep my passport in a handy-dandy holder when I'm traveling, and safe and secure at home when I don’t need it. But hey, do what you want!

Do you need an RFID-blocking wallet for your passport?

shape, rectangle

I touched on RFID-blocking passport wallets v briefly earlier. From my research, RFID-blocking wallets have a special lining that creates a shield to keep your info safe. If you're passionate about getting one, go for a reliable brand. I wouldn't spend your life savings on one or trust any old company's word that they'll keep your info safe. So just be smart about it, k?

Things to consider when buying a passport holder:

shape, rectangle

Material:

With passport holders, you've got options galore when it comes to materials. First up, classic leather. It's soft, it's luxe, and it'll stick with you for the long haul. If you're an eco-conscious girlie, vegan and recycled leathers are where it's at, and there are plentyyy of 'em on this list. They're eco-friendly, animal-friendly, and fashion-forward. And if you’re looking for something other than faux or real leather, check out a plastic-y material like polycarbonate—the ones I’ve spotlighted above are perfection.

Size:

I won't assume a U.S. passport is the only one you own, so make sure to check the exact dimensions of your passport(s) and compare them to the sizes I shared above to make sure everything will fit. Some passport holders are compact and sleek, while others are bigger and bulkier, depending on how many organizational features and extra goodies you want to keep inside.

Closure:

I've included the closure type (zipper, snap, flap, magnet, etc.) in the specs section under each wallet because we all have our preferences. Zippers are the most secure, flaps are the least (but soooo sleek with less hardware), and snap buttons are the fastest to open in a TSA-related pinch.

Features:

I've done my due diligence to make sure I only spotlighted passport holders that are freakin' special, because I’ll never waste your time, okay!? That's why you'll find options with built-in AirTags, RFID-blocking technology, and detachable straps, above. Pick the features that are most important to you, and shop away.
