• The ex-girlfriend of Olympic medalist Sturla Holm Lægreid has spoken out following his cheating confession.
  • Lægreid revealed he'd cheated right after winning a bronze medal for the men’s 20km individual event.
  • His ex chose to remain anonymous, and doesn't seem thrilled by his public apology.

In case you missed it, yesterday, while everyone was minding their own business, Olympian Sturla Holm Lægreid (fresh off winning a bronze medal) tearfully informed the world that he'd cheated on his girlfriend. And now she has some things to say.

Reminder: Lægreid told NRK "There is someone I wanted to share this with who might not be watching today. Six months ago, I met the love of my life, the most beautiful and kindest person in the world. Three months ago, I made the biggest mistake of my life and was unfaithful. I told her about it a week ago. It’s been the worst week of my life. I had the gold medal in life, and I am sure there are many people who will see things differently, but I only have eyes for her. Sport has come second these last few days. Yes, I wish I could share this with her."

Cut to his ex-girlfriend (who remained anonymous), who told Norwegian outlet VG (via People) that the cheating was "hard to forgive, even after a declaration of love in front of the whole world." She added, "I did not choose to be put in this position, and it hurts to have to be in it. We have had contact and he is aware of my opinions on this. [I am grateful] to my family and friends who have embraced me and supported me during this time. Also to everyone else who has thought of me and sympathized, without knowing who I am."

After his confession, Lægreid told the BBC, "I hope I don’t make anything worse for her, but maybe it can help. I don’t know, I hope there’s a happy ending."

TBD, I guess!
