As a commerce editor, I am constantly testing/reviewing/receiving new products for my job. I say this because, with all that comes across my desk, it's been a minute since I've been really surprised by something. We're talking the jaw-on-the-floor-I-need-this-immediately kinda wowed. Enter: Away's new sparkling suitcases.
I attended Away’s holiday preview event (a roller disco — very fitting, it turns out!) earlier this month, and literally stopped in my tracks when I saw the suitcase du jour. It's unlike any luggage I’ve seen: It has a glitter-injected hard shell that's so full-coverage and so shimmery, it has that satisfying, almost fuzzy, tactile glitter look.
Then, it has a really cool glossy hard shell coating over the sparkle, so it isn't going to scrape off and leave glitter in your trail as you strut out of the airport (which is a must if you're carrying this suitcase).
IMO, the photos on the Away site and the campaign don't do it justice. You need to see it IRL — preferably, under the light of a disco ball. It comes in two colors: supernova silver and galaxy blue.
I'm betting, if you clicked on this, you're already familiar with Away. But just in case you aren't, I affectionately call it the Warby Parker of luggage. (Remember back in the early-2010s when Warby Parker revolutionized ordering glasses online? Yeah, Away kinda that for luggage in 2016.) And while the DTC luggage market is soooo much more saturated nowadays, you still see a gazillion Away suitcases every time you go to baggage claim.
I've owned my Bigger Carry-On since Christmas 2019 (thanks, Dad!) and it has served me well over the past five years. I've taken it on almost every flight since then, from long European vacations to quick weekend trips, and it's held up beautifully. The outside is a little scraped and scuffed, but the wheels, handle, and zipper are tough as ever. This sparkly version is the exact same, durable Away suitcase we all know and love, it's just dressed up in its ✨holiday best✨.
Joining the suitcases in Away's 2024 collection is a matching sparkly train case, which is brand new piece of luggage for the brand. TBH, I can’t think of a better gift for the jet setter in your life: This vintage-inspired case is like a miniature trunk — big enough to hold and organize makeup, toiletries, and tech, but small enough to fit inside a personal item, like a large tote or travel backpack. It comes in five other colors, if, for some reason, they aren't into the sparkle (can't relate!).
Seriously, I haven't freaked out over a new colorway like this in a long time. I bet it's gonna sell out before the holidays, so be like me, and add yours to cart so you n-e-v-e-r lose sight of your bags on the carousel, ever again.
