See, in many ancient cultures, including the Sumerians, Egyptians, and Romans, feminine goddesses were worshipped as much as masculine gods, if not more. And they were often associated with planets. Examples: Venus, named for the goddess of love and beauty, and the Moon, which represents maternal energy.
Some cultures also tied each planet to a day of the week, with Friday being dedicated to Venus. And planetary cycles were also very important, including the Moon’s approx. 13 yearly ones. Put all this together and it turns out Friday the 13th is all about really good, really strong feminine vibes. Ones that you should definitely not let go to waste!
The next time this day rolls around (that would be November 13, 2020), plan a night in to honor yourself and connect with this divine energy—especially if you’re recovering from a breakup.
Your Friday the 13th ritual:
- 9:30PM: Set the mood by finding a quiet, cozy place (like your bedroom) and applying an essential oil to your wrists and neck or burning incense infused with herbs or plants traditionally associated with Venus, like rose, jasmine, or vanilla. Then sit down, close your eyes, and focus on your breathing. Identify any low-self-esteem-related thoughts (like, Maybe I just wasn’t good enough for my ex) and tell them bye-bye.
- 10:30PM: Take a journal and write down positive mantras, like, “I am love” and “I am abundance.” You’ll attract some much-needed post-breakup love (self-love, a new partner, or the support of your friends/family) by literally being love. Just trust me.
- Bedtime: Do your nightly skincare routine—slooowly. Really appreciate how good that moisturizer feels as you massage it in. Then grab that journal and read those mantras out loud, repeating them as you look at yourself in the mirror. Smile at your reflection and let the words sink in.
- Wake-up time: Use the element of earth (it’s powerfully feminine just like Friday the 13th) to make your nighttime rituals stay with you long after the 13th. Head out the door instead of hitting snooze for the millionth time and go to a park, beach, lake, or yard. Walk barefoot to really *feel* the earth, and concentrate on that post-breakup self-love you manifested last night.
