Time for a look back at Kate Middleton and Prince William: the Early Years. As everyone who watched The Crown knows, these two met while attending St. Andrew's in 2001—and the beginning of their relationship was actually pretty private thanks to the internet being in its nascent stages.
Wills and Kate started attending more and more public events as the years went on—including William's RAF graduation ceremony in 2008. And ~royal watchers~ just unearthed a video of them gazing at each other throughout.
FYI, this clip was filmed about two years before the couple got engaged. William chatted about the proposal in their official engagement interview, saying, "It was about three weeks ago on holiday in Kenya. We had a little private time away together with some friends and I just decided that it was the right time really. We had been talking about marriage for a while so it wasn't a massively big surprise."
He also noted, "We're like sort of ducks, very calm on the surface with little feet going under the water. But uh no, it's been really exciting because we've been talking about it for a long time so for us, it's a real relief and it's really nice to be able to tell everybody. Especially for the last two or three weeks it's been quite difficult not telling anyone, and keeping it to ourselves for reasons we had to. And it's really nice to finally be able to share it with everyone."
