Joe Jonas was minding his own business wandering around London recently, and decided to drop this ↓ on TikTok. Honestly nothing too wild, but a fan noticed his swanky suit, decided it was the perfect moment for a Taylor Swift reference, and commented "so dignified in his well pressed suit🤭." Which, as we all know, is a lyric from "Mr. Perfectly Fine," a song canonically about Joe.
Though, as Buzzfeed points out, it's actually unclear Joe got the reference because he responded with "thanks for noticing." Like...was he just taking the comment at face value and leaving a genuine thanks? Or was this a cheeky response? I need answers.
Either way, this song has a LOT of lore, so settle in. Taylor and Joe dated from July to October 2008, and he ended their relationship over the phone, which Taylor confirmed during an appearance on Ellen:
“When I find that person who is right for me, he’ll be wonderful, and when I look at that person, I’m not even gonna be able to remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18.”
Cut to 2021, and Taylor dropped "Mr. Perfectly Fine," a bonus song on Fearless (Taylor's Version) which was originally written in 2008—when she and Joe were dating. A sample of the lyrics?
Hello Mr. "Casually cruel"
Mr. "Everything revolves around you"
I've been Miss "Misery" since your goodbye
And you're Mr. "Perfectly fine"
Meanwhile, Joe's then-wife Sophie Turner rocked a "Mr. Perfectly Fine" friendship bracelet to the Eras Tour, so, like, there's NO WAY ON EARTH Joe isn't aware of this song....right?!
